Re: Is it time for an E5/D5?

I would like to see an improved back lock like the one found on the Native 5 that is less prone to vertical shifting. I would also appreciate improved ergonomics.

Re: Is Sal Glesser Irreplaceable?

This has been a question on my mind lately. A lot of the popular knife companies founded in the '80s, or thereabouts, have founders that are getting up in years. Are these companies postured for continued success when their founders are no longer with them? For example, Lynn Thompson recently sold C...

Re: Colors - Talkin' Story - Marketing

Great question, Sal. I like knives with color because I like color. It appeals to the eye, evokes positive feelings, adds variety, and makes things more interesting. Don't get me wrong. Black and stainless look great too, and they'll always have a place in my knife drawer. But as someone has said, &...

Re: POLL: What serrated model would you prefer: FFG Endura SE (liners, VG10) or FFG Pac Salt 2 SE (no liners, LC200N)?

I had a similar experience as the OP. The cutting performance of my Paramilitary 2 FFG SE blew me away. I liked hollow ground SE, but FFG elevated my appreciation for SE to a whole new level. I voted for the Pacific Salt 2 FFG SE LC200N. My Pacific Salt has taught me that the Endura/Pac Salt doesn't...

Re: What brings you more joy?

I only enjoy knives that regularly find their way into my pocket and see use. Except for gifts and "retirees," I sell the knives that sit in my drawer, collecting dust.

Re: Spyderco's Upcoming New Folder? Stretch Lc200N with FRN Navy Blue Scales?

I'm interested in this. I intend to buy a Stretch 2 for use as a backup knife while hunting. Blood is exceptionally corrosive, so LC200N's extra corrosion resistance would be beneficial. And I love navy blue.

A Catcherman with blaze orange FRN scales and an FFG LC200 plain edge blade would get my money.

This knife definitely has my attention, and I hope to get one eventually. It seems like a great EDC knife as well as a fisherman's companion.

Re: S30V Support Club

I've been thinking the same thing lately, so I was glad to see this thread. I like S30V. Its balanced properties allow my folders to do everything that I need them to do, and then some. I think the issue for a lot of knife enthusiasts is boredom. They are bored with plain vanilla and want to try dif...

Re: I'm falling out of love with the Compression Lock

My favorite locks are the backlock and the CBBL. However, for extended woodworking/bushcrafting tasks at camp, I only use a fixed blade. Handle comfort is one of the primary reasons why. This is one of those options that is both the right answer, and I guess just not the answer I want to hear. I fe...

Re: Poll: Interested in a longer version of the Chaparral while KEEPING it´s thin bladestock??

As a general rule, I like larger knives to have handles with more girth. The reason is that I commonly use larger knives for heavier cutting tasks which require more force. I find that a handle with insufficient girth tends to roll and shift in my hand when used this way. A good example of this wou...

Re: Poll: Interested in a longer version of the Chaparral while KEEPING it´s thin bladestock??

I hear you, and prior to actually using a Chap would have said the same. But then I had both a Chap FRN and a Native 5 LW at the same time. While the Native felt better and more comfortable in hand when I just held the knives, totally contrary to what I expected in actual (harder) use the Chap felt...

Re: Poll: Interested in a longer version of the Chaparral while KEEPING it´s thin bladestock??

I would like to see Spyderco release a folder with a long blade ground from thin stock. However, I would prefer a thicker handle. The thin handle of the Chaparral is perfect for its intended application as a small EDC folder. But for a long knife, I would like a handle with a bit more girth. I hear...

Re: Talk to me about Ferro Rods

I use the spine of the blade. Most of my fixed blades have squared spines for scraping. If a spine is too round, the problem is easily resolved with a sharpening stone or file. You can also use the scraper that comes with the rod, or you can use a section of hacksaw blade as a scraper. However, I pr...
