Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
Nope, the blade length and overall dimensions are very close to my initial prototype. The only obvious differences are: Drop point instead of reverse tanto (which I don't mind, as I was working on a drop point version of the design) Compression lock placement and cutout (I had it further back to dod...

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
... By the way, what state or country are you from? Born and raised in California! :) Awesome pics! Can you take some measurements? handle length, blade thickness, etc.? Thanks so much for enlightening us! Sure thing. Blade thickness is 1/8" at the ricasso with a length of 3 and 13/16" me...

If it's anything like the package I just received, the action should be great. :)

Re: Spyderco Paysan
I like the blade shape on the Nirvana better but I like everything else about this one more. Looks like a winner. Likewise. I wanted to pick up a Nirvana, what with it being Spyderco's first integral and all, but ultimately held off on it because I didn't care for the bead blast. But the Paysan is ...

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
Whoo! I got a very special delivery from Spyderco today. Much thanks to the team at Spyderco, this totally met and in many ways exceeded my expectations! Pictures (I apologize for the quality of the pictures or lack thereof; it's indoors at night and I'm using a cellphone): IMG_20180207_201209.jpg I...

Re: Mantra 3 mixed feelings
Wouldn't the steel compression lock be stronger?
As for coolness and that premium feel combined with practicality, that's what the CF under the peelply texture is for :D

Re: Mantra 3 mixed feelings
I also have a similar reaction to S30V. I know it is a very good steel with a great balance of properties. It should make for a great choice for a regular user or the average person looking for a nice knife. As a collector and knife knut though, I'm with those of you looking for more "exotic&qu...

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
I contacted them via email and asked what the process for submitting a design was, and they walked me through it. It's been a fun ride so far, though to be honest I haven't been very active since submitting the design initially. Spyderco has been doing all the heavy lifting in the background; I assu...

Re: Knife lubricant
I like mineral oil myself. Still on my first bottle, been using it years. I didn't know it was used as a laxative before I tried to buy it and had to figure out what section of the pharmacy to find it in....

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
I'm lobbying for CPM20CV/M390/CTS-204P myself, but I totally understand the choice of S30V. It's a perfectly good steel; if it was good enough for the likes of Chris Reeve it's definitely good enough for me. I also initially requested peel ply carbon fiber as the handle material, but that's probably...

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
A bit about myself and the design (and an apology in advance for the wall o'text :D): In college, I spent a lot of time in the student machine shop. We had all kinds of tools, but I could never find a simple cutting instrument like scissors or a knife (not even box cutters!) for things like tape, ca...

Re: I must be part raccoon....
I do the same thing with almost all my knives, mainly because a mirror polish helps hide the fact that my sharpening strokes aren't even and parallel :o

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
Thanks for the welcome! Long time lurker, first time poster (...technically I guess this is my second post, but hey, semantics :p ) Curlyhairedboy, unfortunately I don't have numbers like that on hand as I don't have the actual prototype with me. But based on the original model I submitted, it shoul...

Re: Let's get hyped for the Amalgam!
Personally, I like choils. The way the choil meets the edge means it serves as a sharpening choil and you can really bring that edge angle down when sharpening without accidentally nicking the handle on the stone. It's large enough to double as a finger choil, allowing you to choke up and get your h...
