Re: Is your interest in sharpening on the same level as your interest in knives?

Took years and years to learn to sharpen freehand well. I can do a mean edge now. Not bragging at all. I’m a cook. I should know how to get a knife to cut a ripe tomato. Anyway, I really dislike sharpening a lot, though am very thankful to know how and have the tools. I really hate getting a new kni...

Re: Models That Absolutely DESERVE Sprint Runs

Given the sad news of Wayne Goddard’s passing, how about a medium Goddard in PE? Handle material doesn’t matter. Nothing crazy expensive though.

Another good man gone. I’m a fan of Wayne’s writings and knife design. He played a big part in teaching me to sharpen, with his Blade articles. Sad news.

Re: Sharpening with or without microbevel.

I sharpen freehand, but have always followed the advice of the person who taught me 66 years ago and increased the angle between the blade and the stone "a bit" for the last stroke or two on each side. Don't know if that counts as a microbevel or not, don't really care either. I like how you think....

A clown helped me across the street today. I think it was a nice Jester.

:o :p Wrong thread, but I think you can guess where it was meant for.

Welcome, Randy. Where in Canada are you? I’m from Lethbridge. Also, have you tried BladesCanada? They have a lot of good stuff.

Why pay a person to do something you don't have to? More robots - less jobs. More self check-outs - less jobs, etc., etc. You can't take your money to hell.

Re: Spyderco Serration Bevel

Wavy pattern serrations wouldn’t bite and hold to what needs cutting as well. Not sure I’d like that. Just like there’s a fine line between too pointy/aggressive and too shallow.

I think it’s a great design. I’d be all over a back lock version - actually, a back lock Alcyone is what I want. Not into 3.5 inchers.

Re: The SE mentality shift

I'm certainly biased, but I still think we make the best teeth and have the bet ways to maintain them. I just received a sample of a warnie serrated salt 2. (Jazzed). What a cutting machine! sal I agree that you do, and you do. As for the knife, I think I need one. I've been carrying a SE Sa...

Re: Blade Grind: Avantages? Disadvantages? PE & SE

Well put, Dave. I cut tons of cardboard of varying thicknesses, double walled, etc., and that’s where thinner shines. No need for a big ol’ Wedge there. Seat belt, different story.

He means actually using a knife for something other than fidget flicking or thread cutting. Not saying that’s you, so don’t get upset. Just what he’s trying to get across. Good discussion.

Everyone likes different things for different reasons, and that’s how the world goes around.

Re: Salt 2 or wait native salt (SE)?

The Salt 2 is my current favourite. It has less pointy serrations than the Salt 1. Fantastic handle. I just bought a PE to go with my SE. you’ll really like it, I’m sure.
