Re: Forum Knife Action Problems??

Yeah I expect things that are Brand New to work properly WITHOUT first requiring ‘adjustment maintenance’ to do so! Like my Camo S30V PM2 and my Bento Box M390 PM2 did! You shouldn’t have to get up to $400+ on a knife to expect that! $160 is plenty of money to spend and reasonably expect the knife ...

Unfortunately, no luck there. Thank you for your response, however.

Paramilitary 2 black replacement hardware?

I've never owned one of the black PM2's with all black hardware (pivot, screws, lanyard tube, etc.) can I call Spyderco and order just the hardware to put on regular PM2's? If not, do you guys know of someplace I can find these items?

(I tried a forum search, but had no luck.)

Re: What strop do you use?

I've gotten much better results learning to get hair whittling sharpness right off of a stone than relying on a strop to achieve that level of sharpness (Not to imply anyone who strops uses it as a "crutch") I do keep a leather strop on hand that I sometimes use for checking for a burr. Strops are ...

Re: Bent Blade, Para 3

I'm not saying it can't happen, because we're all human, but I would be surprised if this is a bent blade out of Golden. As others have said, it's most likely an assembly issue. I would send it back to the factory to sort out.

Re: Rock Salt impression

From my experience with H1, I would think that keeping a sharpening steel like those used by chefs, only smaller, on me. This would help quickly realign the rolled edge, which is still sharp, just out of position. I got a small one of these for my brother who uses a fixed blade at his work and he lo...

Re: Kapara vs. PM2 - Box cutting.

/ But back to the original topic: As you own a PM2: Do you think it is a better cardboard-cutter than the Endura or Stretch? Or did you even try that out maybe? Just curious... My first Spyderco was an Endura 4 ZDP189 followed closely by a Caly 3, also in ZDP189 that I purchased at least twelve yea...

Re: Kapara vs. PM2 - Box cutting.

Just wanted to add my experiences concerning cardboard cutting with the Kapara compared to other Knifes: Don´t own a PM 2 at the moment, but compared Kapara to my HAP40 Endura, the Stretch 1 and my Native 5; Honestly, the Kapara did cut Cardboard the best, no matter what angle. Not by far, but noti...

Re: 52100 vs other tool steels

An earned patina is a beautiful thing. ... Now I heard from one friend that a Patina can be a type of corrosion preventative>> if that is actually the case I might look into it. I've always heard the same thing about forced patinas, but haven't seen any conclusive tests to prove this contention. By...

Re: 2018 Alistair Phillips!

After having the Kapara a couple weeks, I still love it's aesthetic, but the non buttery PM2-3 opening/closing still bugs me, which is also true for my Caribbean, PM2's and 3's remain King. I really like my Kapara, but it seems that each new knife I get that isn't a PM2 makes me love my PM2 even mo...

Re: Sharpening tips

Regardless of the sharpening system you use, the key to sharp tips is to never draw the tip more than halfway across the surface of your sharpening medium. If using a belt sander, never go more than halfway across the paper. If using stones (of any kind, wicked edge, edge pro, hapstone, bench stones...

Re: Best system for low angle wide bevels?

For the Hapstone I use clear packing tape on the platform and on the blade of the knife I'm sharpening. It doesn't gum up with windex, water, or anything else you throw at it. It is a bit trickier to get off of the blade, but I also keep a bottle of adhesive remover on my workbench because the most ...

Re: Best system for low angle wide bevels?

Okay so I cracked the piggy bank and bought the Hapstone 7 with diamond stones and silicone carbide as suggested and also god the wicked edge pro adapter. My S90V Military used from the Bay was screwed up by the original owners friend. Bevels all over the place. Some as low as 10 Degrees per my ang...

Re: New 20CV Para 2!!!

Not to detract from this sweet PM2, as im definitely keen on this one, but It seems some of these CC knives go to ebay before the retail release...how much of a collector are you if you're flipping them??? I was once a collector and let me tell you, collectors are not getting rich from ebay sales. ...

Re: Kapara vs. PM2 - Box cutting.

Sorry for not getting back to you guys sooner. Here's an update: With all things being nearly as equal as could be achieved (sharpened angle, grit size, identical cardboard, and identical operator), I performed an experiment. Angling the Kapara at about 45deg. produced the effortless slicing that I ...

Re: 2018 Alistair Phillips!

I too am experiencing an overly stiff lockbar. Seriously it’s bordering on silly stiff. This combined with the smallish cutout and the sharp liner edge on the opposite side that eats at my fingernail, it makes for an unsatisfying experience. In addition, the blade will free-drop like 10 times in a ...

Kapara vs. PM2 - Box cutting.

I purchased a new washer and dryer this week and due to complications with the big-box retailer I had to pick them up and install them myself (first-world problems right?!). Once I had the large boxes off-loaded I set to cutting open the washing machine box with the knife I had in my pocket, my new ...
