Re: Steel inserts on titanium lockfaces, are they necessary?

he feels it provides a safer lock and less chance of slipping. I tend to agree. Besides. If any quality product wears out so fast, they should cover it under warranty. This thread was brought to my notice so I thought I would make a couple of comments. We do not recommend that anyone adjusts the ten...

Re: Steel inserts on titanium lockfaces, are they necessary?

"Correction: Peening the contact is a technique used by cutlers to 'refresh' the actual physical contact area on the lock where it connects to and wears against the blade in use. Since the lock is technically supposed to connect and support the blade at the bottom of the lock at the point far e...

Re: Steel inserts on titanium lockfaces, are they necessary?

Now that goes to another issue. What happens when the insert dislodges or falls out? The screws will have to be very secure for some of these guys beating on them and if they think the knife is supposed to take it they will do that. Again time will tell. My thoughts are that overall there are some b...

Re: Steel inserts on titanium lockfaces, are they necessary?

I have not posted the below in a long, long while and some links might be broken, but here goes for those interested in learning more on this lock. My framelock post This is a compilation of resources and discussion on angles, lock interface, steel vs. ti etc. that I have compiled over the years. He...

Re: Maxamet and the future

Congrats on the knives.

Maxamet has/had some production issues. This was mentioned by Sal some time ago, but no, the Para 2 was not a sprint and many hope to see it in the near future again.

Enjoy the testing of the steel.

Re: Idea for "crud proof" pivot..

Maybe I have been lucky, but using IKBS folders during exploration in Sub Sahara Africa in unconventional oil and gas and in the mining industry I have had little to no issues. Yes sand and crud gets in there but some warm water and dish washing soap has resolved 95% of the issues associated with th...

Re: Where's the Maxamet?

I would like to see a Manix in K490. Not as wear resistant as K390 but the piece I have is running around 7dps with no chipping. That and its compred to M4 with regards to wear resistance has proven to be quite interesting. I've been reading about K490 for about a week now. It's wear resistance is ...

Re: Toughest stainless steel ?

There was some good discussion on the subject here. https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/no-your-pm-stainless-steel-isnt-tough.1535555/ Regardless what marketing data states the properties of the steel is determined by its chemistry. For a specific class of steel like stainless certain steels will pe...

Re: Manix 2 - Maxamet, new to me review.

1st knife for me of 2018... I LOVE IT. So much that I even decided to drop funds on a Native 5 LW in Maxamet in the same week... But I prefer my Manix 2LW in the steel! I am hoping they come back with the PM2 in it after re-visiting the grind. I am keen on getting the Native for my bemch knife. The...

Re: Manix 2 - Maxamet, new to me review.

Curious what angle are you sharpening at? I sharpen most of my Spyderco blades at 16 dps to a polished finish and then add a toothier micro bevel at 20 dps. Blades are typically s30v, s110v, or m4. I have my first maxamet blade on the way. I have tried to stick to the factory angle as far as possib...

Re: Manix 2 - Maxamet, new to me review.

Additional work and thoughts. The knife went on a camping trip and also went through several sharpening sessions on the trip. A mixture of diamond, medium, fine, ultra fine Spyderco rods and a Norton AO stone. I had little issues with the steel on all media. https://s19.postimg.org/y0kgx8fvn/036_ADA...

Re: Manix 2 - Maxamet, new to me review.

I glanced at the pic with the red handled tongs and thought "that's the biggest balisong I've ever flippin seen" :D I sacrificed my S110V Manix 2 to make my custom G10 version so I don't have a lightweight anymore. Might need one of these. My experience with the lightweight Manix has been...

Re: Manix 2 - Maxamet, new to me review.

That axe is overkill for the steaks :) Have a PM2 with Maxamet and love it. Regarding the Maxamet Light-weight Manix, I have to admit that I could never warm up to an essentially liner-less knife with one of the hardest steels available .... I much prefer my fully lined S110V Manix 2 with alu scale...

I was surprised that it's been one of my favorites to sharpen so far. I'm sure I wouldn't want to reprofile it but very rewarding to sharpen takes a nice mirror edge
I was also surprised at how nicely it can take a full mirror. Below is my further update to my thoughts on the steel.

Re: Manix 2 - Maxamet, new to me review.

Thanks for the pix and review. Good work. The Maxamet Manix 2 is a lightweight powerhouse that cuts tirelessly. (Likewise the Native Maxamet) BTW I've never seen steak nor any other meat packaged and labeled as "Brand New." I shudder at the implications of their other offerings. (half jok...

Manix 2 - Maxamet, new to me review.

So I have had a Manix 2 as part of my EDC rotation for many years. More of my old Manix can be read here (images lost though): LINK So when Cliff mentioned Maxamet years ago it looked interesting, though I never really gave it much thought I was able to purchase one recently from the States when I o...

Is it grey or black? I did not order it based on the available picture and went with the Maxamet M2 in stead :)

Re: Which will be a more durable edge- serrated H1, or serrated Lc200n?

Durability meaning resistance to chipping? I would think H-1, but LC200N would also be better than say S90V, or other higher carbide steels IMO.
