Re: Maxamet and the future
Hi MasterDiver, Welcome to our forum and thanx for sharing our thoughts, Maxamet is the alloy that is used to make the rollers in the rolling mills. It is not your normal blade steel. It is very difficult to work with and fallout is high. sal Hi Sal Thank you for the welcome - great fan of your kni...

Re: Maxamet and the future
Even though rex45 has helped bridge the gap between maxamet and all other production blades, maxamet is still in a class of its own. With my examples, rex45 is for sure a little harder than everything except zdp and maxamet. It's close or equal to zdp, but noticeably behind maxamet. I hope both max...

Re: Maxamet and the future
I am curious what you had to pay for that PM2 and where you found it. I am still waiting for new supply from Spyderco so we can get them at reasonable prices. The Manix and Native are easy to find but the PM2/3 are gone everywhere. Found the knife on eBay in germany and paid €269 for the blade. The...

Re: Maxamet and the future
My thoughts goes in the same direction with Rex 45 - However a cutting test by M.C. showed that Rex 45 cut 1122 inches of cardboard and a Maxamet 2121 inches  Then again almost double the carbids and 4-5 Rc higher steel. Gor my knives today and the Manix 2 is great design 84 gr :D There are som...

Re: Maxamet and the future
Howzit china :D
Can anyone elaborate on these production issues? Link?
It must cost more to produce a batch of knives in Maxamet steel then in say S30V but the knives almost cost the same.
Performance of the Maxamet knives - are insane even compared to Rex 45.

Maxamet and the future
Gentlemen :) I have been keen to get my hands on some Maxemet steel and finally found a Para 2 in Germany and also picked up a Manix 2 from France :spyder: I have a feeling that this steel is no longer being produced by Spyderco - hard to find any knives out there? Was the Gray Para 2 in Maxamet a s...

Re: Spyderco Military S90V for hunting what Grit???
Well I have been using mostly forged carbon knives for hunting and they do stain and get carbon spots - its OK I am a user and trigger puller NOT a collector :D Looking forward to testing the Maxamet para 2 and a Mule that I might get my hands on. I have been using a Jim Hammond hunter and a James B...

Re: Spyderco Military S90V for hunting what Grit???
Copy the 90 degree angle on the 600 grit micro serration/scratch pattern :) This is how I use the 1000 grit I use now and the translucent Arkansas stone. I have seen the videos by Michael Chriaty -. that is next level sharp edge - would like to be able to do that one day. Think the wicked edge pro k...

Re: Spyderco Military S90V for hunting what Grit???
Hi all Thank you very much for all the input on the grit for the S90V. I am thinking about getting a DMT D8F Fine 25 micron/600 mesh. would also try some stropping - but I have never done this before. How is the Wicked edge system and the different things from them for this? I like the angle set-up ...

Spyderco Military S90V for hunting what Grit???
Hi New to this forum. I got a Military in S90V that I use for hunting. Guttes and slaughtered two roe deer with it - great knife for the job :) The knife was still able to shave hair after the job :D My question is - What kind of edge would be best to give this knife for tasks like this - hunting? I...
