Re: Which Spyderco Haunts You Most?

Maxamet Military! This is truly haunting. I think they need to perfect the heat treat before releasing this. I wouldn't even blame them if they lowered the hardness (if they felt it was necessary). What’s it matter Hitch? You’ll manage to snap the tip off one way or another anyhow! Ah, h...

100% NATIVE CHIEF.

It seems like a pipe dream at this point.

Hopefully I'm not on the carnivore diet by then.

Thank you Sal.

Re: Why is having the blade drop closed such a big deal?

I like the pm2's and millies to be flickable (just to keep that option open), but prefer ample resistance. I like the strength of the pivot to aid the lock during use.

Re: What is more resistant to rust - DLC'ed carbon steel or plain stainless?

Horrible loaded question. You can't compare a virtually rustproof steel to DLC M4, which at least will rust at the bevel. And showering with the knife?

Lol, the pm2 is my smallest knife and I've recently lost some love for the model.

Next smallest spydie currently is a Manix XL.

Re: New knife, uneven grind

My Spyderco's have been slightly better than 50/50, as in, the majority of the time they've been virtually perfect. I've had other brands show up with much better bevels and be much sharper on arrival, but factory sharpness means very little to me. And to a freehand sharpener and knife USER an uneve...

Re: Which Spyder folder is the toughest; will take the most abuse?

Lateral stress on a pivot is about accidents for someone who knows knives, it's not about using a knife to pull nails out of a board.

Re: Which Spyder folder is the toughest; will take the most abuse?

My perfect "tough" folder is this: Tall blade (sharpening lifetime) Stout tip (I've broken off too many millie/pm2's) Full liners Large stop pin within those liners Large diameter pivot barrel Large pivot screws Larger phosphor bronze washers than spyderco offers Tri-ad lock (spyderco backlock is f...

Re: Which Spyder folder is the toughest; will take the most abuse?

Bloke, at the end of the day we all view knives EXTREMELY differently. For all I know there's a boxcutter forum somewhere where they call all pocketknife fans a bunch of weirdos. It all depends on what kind of life you live. Maybe spyderco simply isn't the brand for me. I refuse to believe it, but s...

Lance, I consider myself friends with Vivi, so on that front, it's all good. Thank you for responding. You're the only person here (which I'm sure of) spends more time in the ocean than myself, so I always enjoy seeing your input. Re: Which Spyder folder is the toughest; will take the most abuse?

Blade stock isn't the only issue. Anything that isn't extremely thin and extremely lightweight is a sharpened prybar nowadays. You know what I meant. Not really. That's why I asked. I've used a lot of 3mm thick FFG blades as pry bars while harvesting fatwood. Granted they were fixed blades, but the...

Re: It's been 8 months....

NOOOOOOO! :( Welp, guess I'm getting a Caribbean somewhat soon. I was really holding out for the XL. I've encountered some unfortunate hotspots while carving wood with my cruwear pm2 (weird shooting pain in wrist getting through a knot). It made me realize how inferior the ergos are for me in hard u...
