Re: Model request : Pry-Byrd - specialised knife w/ blade for light prying
The Civivi Crit is $75. Has a blade and a tool which is primarily for prying/screwdriver. Nitro V steel. Blade and implement lock I think. I would hate to break a Spydie prying. The Civivi, not so much. I have plenty of tools to pry with so I don’t think I need a Spyderco/Byrd prybar. However diminu...

C 22 Michael Walker
C 46 Lum Tanto (hamagiri grind is a must)
C 55 Terzuola Starmate
All 3 with at least S35 or M390. I would buy all 3!

MagnaCut FFG, modified wharncliffe/sheepsfoot, Carbon Fiber scales, button comp lock, black wire clip, basically a Smock with slicier grind. I bet you couldn’t keep those in stock.

Re: Are YOU paying attention right now?
I guess every cloud has a silver lining? I can see the validity of David’s view and appreciate JD’s nostalgia. I don’t share the love of the classics or serrations but I can understand both viewpoints. I don’t think Spyderco’s “Golden Age” has come yet. I have the feeling it is around the corner. I ...

Hard to argue with the fluted Ti Military. Still there are a lot of great Spyderco knives.

Re: Manix 2 with CTS-XHP
Is one a LW? I think all the LW models are FFG. The G 10 knives are sabre grind sometimes. There’s at least one exclusive from Fraden lock that is sabre grind I believe. I bet a Manix 2 collector on the forum knows for sure.

Re: Seconds sale
If you’re thinking about it and haven’t been, you should go. I have a S90 V Manix 2 that the defect was just the scales. There are also deals on new knives and I bought a Schempp Bowie that Mr. Schempp signed on the blade. It’s also good fun standing outside talking to the other knife people in atte...

Re: sage 5 compression or little native compression
Sage 5 has the most comfortable feel in hand, I prefer it over the Watu, the Native family has much thicker blade stock that I just don’t need, so I prefer the grind on the Sage 5. The Sage 5 comp lock and taller scales make it easier to open and close one handed for me. I haven’t bought a Sage LW y...

Shaman/Superleaf, very similar and the Manix 2 LW or not. I think it’s the locks. The Comp lock in the humorless configuration and the CBBL just feel right to me.

Re: Speculative 2022 Discontinued List Discussion Thread
Z-Cuts? I don’t understand that at all. I have several and I love mine. I need to order some ASAP. I also have a desire for the Mantra. Have to think about that but I probably will start looking for one.

Locking, not a slipit but sub 3“ would be great. Any model that meets those criteria. If I could persuade Spyderco to make a knife it would be a Millie in SPY 27 or Magnacut.

Keychain, Right front pocket, center console in the car (Rescue Assist just in case). The work bag has a Byrd Cara Cara, mostly they are on standby like the multi tools on the keychain and in the work bag. Ready when I need them.

Re: Wire clip to replace the spoon clip?
I have looked for one. I could not find one. I think the problem is that the slots the wires fit into are not on most scales. I would swap scales for the ability to get a wire clip instead of the flat spoon style. Wire clips are better IMO. Scale makers should offer replacement scales with the slots...

Preferably large and heavy. Retains heat better and your coffee stays warm longer. Or an insulated one of good quality with the Spyder on the side. Black mug red Spyder?

Re: Let's talk about cutting edge vs blade length
Interesting that scalpels came up. Surgeons mostly use a #10, #11, or a #15 blade. Those #’s are the most common shapes. In my experience the surgeon chooses one and uses that shape for everything that they use a blade for. So you put out a #15 for surgeon X for all their surgeries. The blade is ste...

Re: Random: General Spydie Chat
I like to test sharpness on paper, specifically the yellow pages/phone book. Sometimes I shave some forearm hair. The paper though I can feel and hear a difference as I cut when it’s sharp enough. I usually shoot for a good working edge, not hair popping.

It's like we're all in a multi-step program to help you with your addiction, but no one's made it past the first step. :squinting-tongue I think those programs begin when you break down a...
