Re: Spyderco’s Tri-Angle Sharpmaker??
If you’re off by 3° On the edge it is going to make a big difference. I seriously have no further desire to be part of this forum. Lightbulb specs definitely do have minimum settings that they better match. If your receiver spec is for 100 W is that per channel is that continuous is that peak let’s ...

Re: Spyderco’s Tri-Angle Sharpmaker??
Every sharpening system has its shortcomings, no doubt, and so has detractors. The Sharpmaker could be manufactured with a precision milled base and hand lapped stones. It might possibly work better for someone already very skilled with it, but would have little or no benefit for the majority for s...

Re: Spyderco’s Tri-Angle Sharpmaker??
So, let me make sure I've got this straight. A tool exists which most everyone is able to use to great success except for you and WE are then ones who don't know any better? A'ight. If I'm on a carpentry forum and 100 other carpenters are able to cut a straight line with a skilsaw and I'm not, shou...

Re: Spyderco’s Tri-Angle Sharpmaker??
Hi Angela, Welcome to our forum. I use the sharpmaker almost every day for more than one knife. I often go from dull to very sharp in a couple of minutes. I'm not sure what your issues were with the unit. You said you only used it for a short while. Perhaps you need more experience with the tool? I...

Re: Ball Bearing Lock, why not on more knives?
Springs can break. There are a lot of moving parts. They require a hyper-delicate adjustment of the pivot to balance blade play with a smooth action.

Re: Spyderco’s Tri-Angle Sharpmaker??
Personally I think the sharpmaker is only a good tool to keep a sharp knife sharp. Even if you purchase the diamond rods they are not very aggressive. The diamond rods are also very fragile. If you try to reprofile S110 V steel you are just trying to punish yourself. A long time ago I went to a knif...

Re: Spyderco’s Tri-Angle Sharpmaker??
Thanks you for all the replies, there seems to be a lot of great advice here. Just to clarify I am a complete Newb when it comes to sharpening, and just purchased my first couple Spyderco’s...the Efficient and Percistence. So far I can totally see that these will be a gateway drug into collecting S...

Re: Spyderco’s Tri-Angle Sharpmaker??
I’m going to see if I can simplify this for you a little bit. Every 10th time he suggests you use the 30° angle This is also known as your back bevel. It thins out the blade to the actual cutting edge of the blade. It makes slicing things easier. If you have a very fat blade but it is very sharp it ...

Para 3 Cpm S110v left handed would be nice with deep pocket carry. I can do without that land yard hole too.

Re: Spyderco’s Tri-Angle Sharpmaker??
People make sharpening out to be a lot more complicated than it has to be. The most important thing is that you have to understand what a burr is. Then you just refine the edge with smoother grits. Sharpening is not a race. Take your time and just be consistent. Even if the angle is off by a little ...

Re: Spyderco’s Tri-Angle Sharpmaker??
I only used the sharp maker one time I’m sorry I ever bought it That's a shame, but I can kind of relate because I didn't like beer the first time I tried it. It’s true I didn’t like beer the first time I tried it. To me the sharpmaker does not feel natural. With a bench stone I can sort...

Re: Spyderco’s Tri-Angle Sharpmaker??
I recently purchased the Sharp maker. I even purchased the ultrafine rods and the diamond rods. I wish I never bought it I have buyers remorse. I only used it one time and I never even used the diamond rod. I have a set of DMT stones that I think are awesome. I use this simple plastic wedge to set m...

Re: S110V Sharpening Tricks?
I have the Para 3 in this steel. The first time I sharpened it I marked the back bevel with a sharpie and discovered it is not 15° per side or 30° inclusive. Once I corrected this and put a micro bevel at 20° per side or 40° inclusive S110V sharpens just as easy as any other steel.
