Re: Chap or caly: small gift to self for first born
Thanks, everyone. The first stretch has been challenging to say the least, but we’re all coming through it healthy so I feel blessed. He’s a beautiful young man, I can surely say that. As for the knives, I’ll keep my eyes open on the secondary market and see what opportunities float up. Doesn’t seem ...

Re: Chap or caly: small gift to self for first born
That Hap40 Caly seems great. Is going rate about $170? I’m hoping to be closer to the $100 rather than $200 mark.
Thanks for the well wishes! Mom and baby are healthy and well which is all I could hope for.

Chap or caly: small gift to self for first born
Hey all, My Delica took a permenant vacation while out for a hike in the fall. I’ve been making do with my dragonfly which is a capable little design, but with the recent birth of our first child I want to treat myself to a nice delica replacement. I’m thinking I would like to go Chap or Caly 3. Bot...

I loved my Rookie though a slightly thicker handle would make it more comfortable in use.

Re: Sal asks you to design a Spyderco.
2.5-3 inch fixed. General purpose utility blade. Sabre ground primary with flat/sharpened spine like a wharnnie for pull cuts. Short three finger grip reminiscent of Street Beat. Steel chosen for toughness and ease of retouching on sharpmaker. Possible notch/protruding facet on butt of handle for li...

Clipitool Rescue: replacement blades?
Greetings, I bought a friend of mine a Clipitool Rescue as a gift on the occasion of his first child. He was really taken by the knife, but he’s a first responder and promptly went out and snapped both the blade and the belt cutter on calls. He’s not active on the forums, so I just thought I’d ask f...

Re: Bobbing a handle to 50/50 ratio?
My intent here had less to do with blade/handle ratio but more with eliminating a lot of extra or unnecessary handle length. The material removed doesn’t change the ergos, and allows for front flipping action. 6DFC60D7-6D80-4B7D-9330-59E71153C82D.jpeg Thank you all for the responses. Spyderg: that’...

Bobbing a handle to 50/50 ratio?
I understand the arguments made around blade length being defined by the task and and handle length being defined by what’s comfortable. In many Spyderco knives this means the blade is somewhat shorter than the handle. I have no problem with that outright. However, I have small hands and so at least...

Re: Meet the Expert | Phil Wilson
Someday, I would love to see Mr. Wilson write a knife making book (a la David Boye). His designs are so classic, and he has a clear mastery of the craft.

Re: Spyderco/Phil Wilson Bow River
Handled this today. It’s a great knife and should sell well. Wanted to add to my in-depth initial impression above...if you didn't know the steel type/country of origin, and someone handed you this knife, you could easily assume it's price would be triple digits. That's how the quality and feel str...

I'm not a pocket auto guy - but that Seecamp seems like a nice little package. Give me a steel pistol anyday; I don't care what these polymer guys say.

It would be great to have a sticky thread that defines toughness, strength, wear resistance, etc. and associated blade materials/uses.
It would be a helpful cheat sheet for members.

Re: Spyderco Saw?
Honestly, I see a lot of people urging Spyderco to produce a lot of non-knife stuff--tactical pens, saws, axes, etc. I like Spyderco knives. When Spyderco focuses on it's core competency, it's world-class. I'm a lot less enthusiastic about asking them to move away from that competency because I wan...

Spyderco Saw?
I've been thinking about a ideal version of the Clipitool for use in the Boundary Waters that would match a thin Sprig-like blade with a short saw (maybe adding a second more robust blade for wood work) and came to wonder if Spyderco had ever made a saw blade before? Obviously, the serrated edge bla...
