Re: Sal: any chance of a Spyderco Straight Razor?
For me, the idea has an appeal. The straight razors I've tried, even those made by serious makers, seem just barely up to the thickness of my stubble, often requiring mid-shave stroppings. I've often wondered what a modern PM steel (e.g. Maxamet) might bring to the table, and whether it could let me...

You can of course also look into the ambitious/tenacious range, the difference between CTS-BD1 v 8cr13mov is negligible with people having preferences either way but I’ve not tried the former. My ambitious has seen years of use and is still solid, it’s been through hundreds if not thousands of pall...

Re: Sage 6 lock request
I have a feeling this may eventually become the way compression locks are operated anyway. While not the same lock, the Autonomy unlocks in the same way that the Smock will, and I'm really loving how it works vs a typical compression lock tab, especially when wearing gloves. Absolutely. And for fli...

Re: Sage 6 lock request
There's a lot of joy in a good button lock, too. Then again, might be too confusable with the Smock-style Button Comp lock.

Re: H1 is the perfect EDC steel. Change my mind..
I'd put LC200N above it. I've not beat on it much, but I love how it sharpens, and it has many of the perks of H1, but without the here-today-gone-tomorrow edge of H1. But for serrated use, you make a nice argument.

Re: Self defense with new releases
You might consider a good pair of running shoes, or failing that, a great deal of training with whatever method and tools you choose. Alas, having a tool doesn't make you safe, having a tool with the training to use it makes you safe.

Re: LC200 N or H1 whats the difference?
LC200N is a much better all-around steel, in and out of the water, whereas H1 has serious disadvantages for everyday carry (particularly in terms of edge holding). I'd recommend LC200N to anybody for general ownership and use, but would recommend H1 only to somebody who's anticipating the knife bein...

Re: Shipping of internal parts
I'd happily pay for spare parts, or particularly, for a "Parts kit" for a given SKU, containing a set of screws, washers/bearings, etc. Yeah, you'd get stuff you don't need, but for a knife I hope to have for the long game, I could see keeping that around.

Re: Taking apart knives
One of the best suggestions, imho, to come out of these paired threads are some small tamper-evident stickers. Put one on each side of the pivot at the factory. Make them so they're easily removed destructively (e.g. the adhesive comes off readily with a bit of rubbing alcohol, but the sticker falls...

Re: Taking apart knives
Well there are always these things and legos etc. I don't know, maybe I'm just a materials snob, but I've always had edge retention issues with lego knives. Although the corrosion resistance is off the charts, and the diamond sharpmaker stones work *great*, CPM-LEGO is not the most impressive mater...

Hi Nick. We have no intention of changing our mfg methods with screw construction. Never thought to. Don't even know why one would think that. sal Hi Sal, you've said nothing to that effect, absolutely. But people in the thread have advocated for return to pinned construction or JB-weld ...

Re: Taking apart knives
I was just noticing that the current catalog has almost 300 folders and wondering if some of these afis would demand that all had to be field-strip-able. As one of those afis, I think there's some truth here. I'm willing to put up with hard-to-maintain construction either on the super-low end (wher...

Here, I'm trying to do my part to raise awareness of just how unpleasant returns after disassembly are, and to address some of the other things brought up here. I know not everybody agrees with my feelings on disassembly, and not everybody sees anti-disassembly policies as user-hostile, but hopefull...

Re: Taking apart knives
I don't want to derail the thread here, but the problem with the modern goods I mentioned isn't their complexity, it's that the end user is ACTIVELY prevented from or using them as they see fit or getting them serviced by anyone other than the original manufacturer. ... Ultimately, more "unfix...

Re: Taking apart knives
I don't get it and it seems fairly irresponsible to me to promote the disassembly of products the manufacturer doesn't intend to be taken apart to every random dude (or lady) who comes across your channel. Respectably, of course, but that's my $0.02. I hear what you're saying, but from my perspecti...

Re: Taking apart knives
The liability issue is a good enough reason by itself to stop a manufacturer from selling something to put inside a knife without knowing the persons training and experience and qualifications. Even giving a nod or online directions assumes a certain amount of liability that will be used in a court...

Re: Taking apart knives
Disassembling and then returning a knife is deeply ugly. Once you've mucked around with it, it's yours. And it's even worse that dealers are saddling you with these after accepting a bad return, particularly after you just raised MAP to help them out. Seems like a pretty crappy thing to do to the co...

They're putting a bit of extra shine on their Halo product. If the blade finish and handle finish is Slysz Bowie quality, and it cuts, and it's as well done as the Nirvana was on top, then I can see it. And dat sharpening choil, by the way. But even for me, having expensive tastes, that's a big ask.

Re: Spyderco’s Polestar & Alcyone should not be in the “VALUE LINEUP”
I'd always thought of this line as being the evolution, design wise, of the Tenacious and pals. I'd love to see them continue to be made in China, maybe with something like 14C28N or D2 (which would be a nice boost from 8Cr), and gradually replacing the Tenacious line.
