Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Awesome friday. 1550225410245842.jpg What you been cutting with the Millie, Mom? What have i not been cutting. :) I have practicly used it for everything since i got it. The patina (if you can call it that) is mostly from pocket acid, and making lunch at work, fish, meat and fruit. Nice to see how ...

Re: Which Spyderco Haunts You Most?

Maxamet Military! This is truly haunting. I think they need to perfect the heat treat before releasing this. I wouldn't even blame them if they lowered the hardness (if they felt it was necessary). What’s it matter Hitch? You’ll manage to snap the tip off one way or another anyhow! Ah, h...

Wow, that one is... well out of my league, for a toy. Beautiful though. Congrats, Bloke! I think I'll settle for an ok looking affordable no-name flask. Many Thanks Michael! It’s a great little flask I’ve had for a while now (can’t remember what I paid for it ). I use it for water when I ...

Re: Why is having the blade drop closed such a big deal?

I view folders as simple little machines that can be tuned fairly easily if of course they are made to be disassembled so I tune them. I s’pose it’s no secret that the Military is my favourite and one of the contributing factors is, it’s easy to get them perfect or at least what I consider perfect. ...

Re: BLOKE!!?? > I hope you're OK Brother??

I can't believe the media here in the states hasn't said anything about this (I haven't seen any coverage anyways, and I read the news everyday). I wish them all the best in Northern Australia and hope they recover. Thanks again Matt! :) It’s truly a sad state of affairs. We see footage nightly and...

Re: BLOKE!!?? > I hope you're OK Brother??

Just saw this, glad you avoided the worst of it Alex Many Thanks Matt. :) We’re good down here but the people up north are truly suffering. They estimated that three hundred thousand head of cattle drowned in the flood also and there a vast areas deemed a biohazard now with so many rotting carcasse...

Re: New knife, uneven grind

Uneven grinds seem to be fairly common in all makes of production knives and only the degree varies. I've received Spyders with near perfect grinds and some not so perfect but it doesn't rattle me at all as long as all else is in order and I know I can eventually even things up over a couple of shar...

Re: Which Spyder folder is the toughest; will take the most abuse?

Bloke, at the end of the day we all view knives EXTREMELY differently. For all I know there's a boxcutter forum somewhere where they call all pocketknife fans a bunch of weirdos. It all depends on what kind of life you live. Maybe spyderco simply isn't the brand for me. I refuse to believe it, but ...

Re: Which Spyder folder is the toughest; will take the most abuse?

This should not be a touchy subject ... Agreed! :) You make valid points Gringo and I think the most valid is that we all have a different concept of toughness. Blade steel aside there’s no getting around the fact that all things being equal the pivot and lock will always be the weak link in any fo...

Re: Which Spyder folder is the toughest; will take the most abuse?

Sad that the knife community defaults to prying every time someone mentions toughness. That's just the way it is though, and I'm still here... This and the toughest fixed blade thread are comical! :) Tarzan couldn’t break a No.5 Opinel dressing out an elephant if he used it as a knife! Ah, hahaha! ;)

Re: Which Spyder folder is the toughest; will take the most abuse?

I must be missing something. What does it matter if you have a folder made from 1/2” blade stock or 1/16” blade stock when they ride around a 3/16” - 1/4” pivot? From where I’m standing there are two possible scenarios. Pry with either and you’ll either snap a blade or you’ll blow out a ...

Re: Mantra Detent Ball

I don’t know if it’s a good thing or not but with my Militaries I tune the last thing I do is pack the detent hole flush with Shimano Ace2 grease, same as I use on the pivot and it certainly seems to make a difference.

I s’pose time will tell but so far so good. :)
