Re: What is tougher?

Cool info, I appreciate it. It would be fun to see more steels on that toughness chart for comparison. The Powder metallurgy process is the same that makes PS27 tougher then ingot D2 - is that right? Correct. Larrin analyses some tests of cast vs PM D2 equivalents in the middle of the page here: ht...

Re: What is tougher?

What is the mechanism to measure toughness, do they put a slab of steel in a vice and bend it? Is it scientific, or just user experience? Charpy tests are close to that. They use a pendulum to measure how much force is absorbed before fracture. V-notch specimines break a little differently than unn...

What is tougher?

K390 vs Rex-45?

Do we know the difference yet? And, are we just splitting hairs at this point. Their composition is different but they seem to be a good choice for a tougher high edge retention steel. Thoughts?

Re: eBay selling

I have bought and sold a few knives on ebay, I use the auction feature with no bottom price (I forgot he exact term), it is not very expensive at all. But, I would not sell a PM2 or Millie on there as people are too worried about fakes. Most other knives are fine, and make sure to demonstrate it is ...

Re: Will there be more Rex 45?

I would buy a manix, native, or ukpk. Maybe something funky like a Yo2. I dislike the orange, but that is a steel I need to try out. Even a fixed blade would be really cool! Maybe a sprig, or a bow river type set up.

Re: Hard truths and observations

These are just my opinions/ramblings and not here for argument. Wages in general are an interesting study. From a social psychology point of view. A constant "yin-Yang". Many businesses have their own points of view on this concept world wide. One point of view says; "keep costs as low as possible ...

Batoning, SMH...

Batoning with a folder is dumb, right? We all have seen the abuse videos and realistically that should never happen. Well, I found myself in a jam, long story, and had to use my CF/Ti s90 millie. I am not sure what type of wood it was (we have mostly pine in AZ), but it seemed like hard stuff. I did...

DF2 keeps getting more pocket time

Ever since I bought the KW frame lock Military, I keep finding my DF2 in my pocket more and more. The Carbon Fiber/Titanium Military is my favorite knife, it is amazing! But, the large size is too big for office EDC or sitting in the car driving around town. Too much pocket room... Now that I am not...

Re: Do most of us need larger knives?

Urban or DF2 can handle my EDC chores 95% of the time. Sitting in an office all day, having a Millie or stretch is overkill and takes up too much pocket room. Camping or outdoors, yes a bigger knife is preferred

Re: What would make you buy more Spyderco fixed blades?

Need and cost. I use my Mule the most, great EDC style fixed blade. But all my other fixed blades only get used when I go camping. My next fixed blade will probably be a Mora. Since I use them so infrequently I may as well get a cheaper blade

Re: Is the Military too big or big enough?

I will go against the grain. The Millie is too big for normal EDC. There, I said it! (for desk jockey's like myself) While it is my favorite knife, and it feels great in hand, the Military is too big to EDC for a normal desk job. Key word - EDC and Desk Job. If the PM2 was too big, the Millie will b...

Cool bundle! I agree a Dragonfly 2 is too small for a cold steel person (but they are so awesome!).

Gift for a friend

I am buying a thank you gift for a buddy of mine, what do you guys think I should do? I want to stick under $60, so that is tough. He has a couple knives, but they are the cheap cold steel older versions. He spends a ton on guns, but not much on knives. I was thinking a Dragonfly 2 or a UKPK would b...

Re: Coyote Urban/UKPK

Hi Jazz, I'm pushing for a 52100 UK. sal That is something I would buy. As a guy that “only” has 8-10 folders, I think that would make a nice addition. I’m assuming the price point would be modest. I think the ukpk would be a great mule format or one that has interesting sprint options. A good pric...

Re: Why do you have the knives you do?

Vivi - pe or se for your aqua salt? If PE, does the edge really hold up during bushcraft? For me, here we go... PAC Salt SE, for every reason. My favorite yard knife. Takes a beating, tough as hell, keeps its edge, and never rusts. Super light and slim as well Millie, I traded in my beloved pm2 beca...

Re: Police versus military?

I only own a Millie, and its ergos are awesome! I want a P4, but the biggest issue I am concerned with is the thinner handle. That being said, I have held a Manix XL and I thought that was the was most form fitting knives and most outstanding ergos I have ever felt. But, I can see how it would take ...
