Re: I wish Spyderco would make...
Not sure if this has been brought up, but a Para3 in XHP would be really cool.

Re: What was the last knife you carried before buying your first Spyderco?
Kershaw OD-1. Action is smooth as ****. The only reason I don't carry it is because of the liner lock. That knife made me hate liner locks. Still sitting in my top drawer, pretty as the day I got it.

Re: You have to get out fast. What one Spyderco knife?
I keep an Endura and a leatherman in my truck. If no truck, then I'm stuck with my M4 PM2 that's usually in my pocket. If I have time to think, I'd grab the Kerahawk.
I'm in Riverside. We've been spared by the winds and the fires but many of my friends have been dealing with the evacuations.

Re: ZDP 189
With 3% carbon, I bet ZDP has a lot more carbide content than cruwear. http://zknives.com/knives/steels/steelgraph.php?nm=ZDP-189%2CCru-Wear&ni=410,272&hrn=1&gm=0 I don't know enough about metallurgy to really debate this, but perhaps you're right. If I run across Cru-wear for a deal I'...

Re: ZDP 189
I've been hoping to see a ZDP189 Police since 2009 or so, back when the Police 3 came out. I'd buy a ZDP189 Police 4 in a heart beat. IMO the Police 4 needs a run in some sort of stainless steel, why not ZDP189? It'd be that or VG10 I'd imagine. If a man could really dream, peel ply carbon fiber / ...

Re: ZDP 189
I've heard cru-wear is well liked, but with 1% tungsten and 2% vanadium, it still has what I'm trying to avoid. What exactly is it with the small percentages of tungsten and vanadium that you're trying to avoid? 3% of wear resistant carbides seems to be enough, in my experience, to quickly degrade ...

Re: ZDP 189
M4 and S110V OTOH both lose that razor sharpness after the first few uses, which I've heard called carbide tear out. They do maintain decent sharpness for a long time, but being decently sharp is a let down compared to a freshly sharpened blade. Diamond Stones. David Do diamond stones prevent carbi...

Re: ZDP 189
As previously mentioned, G10 Stretch 2! Probably the best ZDP knife ever made in my opinion, and luckily, they're still available! But it sounds like you're not a fan of back locks. You mention the Ouroboros, but are there any other specific models you have in mind? I'm totally with you on the stee...

Re: ZDP 189
My caly3.5 in zdp flies open with a Spydie flick and swings free with the lock fully depressed. It’s almost a problem as it’s nicked me a few times. I’m used to having the choil on my other Spydies act as a safety but it doesn’t line up right for me on the caly. I haven’t experienced it but I’ve he...

Re: ZDP 189
I am quite fond of my G10 Stretch2 in ZDP. I consider it great steel. It has better edge retention than S30V and similar steels. Probably closer to 204P/M390/20CV and probably just a little below M4. I would be interested in seeing it used in some more Japanese knives but G10 with VG10 from Japan i...

Re: ZDP 189
Does the caly 3.5 flick open? By that I mean does it have washers or bearings that let the blade swing all the way open and all the way closed when lock friction comes off?Sharp Guy wrote:Caly 3.5 enough said..

Re: ZDP 189
Will ZDP ever come in a nicer knife than the line of knives it currently comes in? Perhaps with bronze-phosphor washers, g10 or carbon fiber, compression lock or ball bearing lock, etc? Building on a recent post and because in my mind this is the best knife steel ever created, I think the Seki line...

Re: ZDP 189
Well there have been G10 and CF versions of the Stretch in ZDP, but I guess if you don't like Japanese Spydercos then maybe ZDP isn't for you. Being a Japanese steel it's unlikely to find its way into anything else. That the feeling I've gotten from previous posts. I alternate between my ZDP dragon...
