Fantasy knives?

OK, there's lots of talk here about those lusted after exotic combinations of steel and handle material, or resurrections of long retired favorite designs, but how many of us Spyderco die-hards would pony up an extra $20 or so for a regular production UKPK made in a choice of G10 handle scale colors...

Re: I cant sharp my knife with sharpmaker triangle :(

That knife looks like an exact duplicate of the Tool Logic brand knife/light combos. If it really is the same as a Tool Logic knife then the grind and steel are pretty "basic". You probably need to re-set the bevel (make the angle of attack to the blade edge shallower) on the non-serrated ...

Re: I'm Thinking Stretch in Super Blue - Good Choice??

I found the Carter video I mentioned. I didn't remember it exactly like I thought. He wasn't talking about a blade bending then returning to it's original straightness. He was talking about the edge flexing a bit then returning to it's original position, straight. The video is actually about why ed...

Re: ebay is the place where the crazy is on display!

I recently noticed that there were 2 Brown PM2 auctions going on at the same time. They ended 2 hours apart, one for $136, the other for $188. The titles were virtually the same, both new, the only difference was one was lacking a box. A $52 box! Or $52 worth of gung-ho bid to win over-enthusiasm. ...

it seems like the Caly Jr. triangulates the features of the UKPK leaf pattern, Native 5 LW and Dragonfly... all excellent knives in their own right.

Re: ebay is the place where the crazy is on display!

You are not correct. PM2 is currently available for $135, sometimes for less. Grey Jester was $70 knife, not anymore. The Jester Sprint may be one that actually ends up being pretty valuable as a collectible... the current auction seems to me like a fluke, but there aren't any other G10 or Sprint r...

Re: I'm Thinking Stretch in Super Blue - Good Choice??

My Stretch SB feels like a totally normal hardened and tempered blade; rigid enough that it takes serious pressure to deflect the blade with my fingers, and springy enough to return to true after flexure. ...and after a full progression from coarse diamond plate through J-nat finish stone it's *fant...

Re: I'm Thinking Stretch in Super Blue - Good Choice??

Very carefully, I bent it back toward the other way when open with my bare hands until the centering was better. I've since tried this with some VG10 folders and could not get them to budge so at least in my experience it seems that the clad knives are just that much softer. You really shouldn't be...

ebay is the place where the crazy is on display!

If I'm interpreting the rules correctly mentioning an auction is OK, just not linking to one (especially if it's still live)... If I got that wrong I apologize and please remove the thread, or I can edit it. So I saw an auction that still had time left on it for a Jester sprint run (gray G10), anyon...

Re: New magnet for the T-Mag

Sorry to exhume an old thread, but if this doesn't fly I'll start a new one... I'm looking at the T-mag as a possible acquisition, but have a question; Does the magnet get battered by opening and closing? I know that neodymium magnets are breakable, though strong plating around the magnetic material...

Re: Nilakka with a numbered blade?

OK, #167 is in my pocket right now! I received it in the mail this morning and re-profiled the (badly bent) edge while I was on lunch break, you were all absolutely right about this knife; it kicks butt! The entire belly of the blade was bent over from cutting something too hard, so I started with a...

Re: I'm Thinking Stretch in Super Blue - Good Choice??

Here is how I understand patina and rust. Patina is a form of corrosion but not corrosion like rust. Some say it's all corrosion. But for kitchen knives (non-stainless) my understanding is patina is "good" corrosion and rust is "bad" corrosion.... I've read and heard that patina...

Re: I'm Thinking Stretch in Super Blue - Good Choice??

My blue #2 kitchen knives have a patina on the cutting edge that looks almost like the color of carbon steel after a tempering draw to between straw and blue, they don't tend to actually *rust*, but I'm pretty careful not to leave them wet and I rinse/wipe them after cutting any acidic fruits or veg...

Re: I'm Thinking Stretch in Super Blue - Good Choice??

I have the Dragonfly in ZDP-189 for comparison and if Spyderco's "super blue" is as billed (alleged to be even better than blue 2) then I will say that it would be a crime to lock the SB Stretch away in favor of one in ZDP-189! Blue sharpens to a razor edge with minimal effort, not as easy...
