Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?
Exact same thing with mine. I think thicker washers would help. I filed the liners where they rubbed but it didn't seem to help and I ruined the back spacer during reassembly so I'm left with a useless superblue stretch for now. actually, your post about the back spacer was cautionary... I like to ...

Re: I'm Thinking Stretch in Super Blue - Good Choice??
The edge on that Stretch looks fantastic! What stone progression did you use to get there? I think I'll leave my SB Stretch close to stock, I already lowered the total included angle of the edge, but didn't work the thinner bevel far up the blade, so it cuts nicely, but doesn't look all that differe...

Re: The stainless clip
Just place the clip in a container with a half inch of lacquer thinner, put the lid on, and return a few hours later to peel off the soft, wrinkled paint. It comes right off. Thanks! The way it has rubbed off on my co-worker's Delica I figured it was probably just paint rather than powder coat or c...

Re: Least/most parts in a folder
Least has to be any of the one piece molded FRN models. The Native LW and Dragonfly for example have just one piece of FRN for the handle, a pivot bolt assembly, and the clip and two piece bolt. The only way you can get less is to remove the clip. Well, speaking of no clip, the Ladybug only has the...

Re: I'm Thinking Stretch in Super Blue - Good Choice??
Just for a bit of fun I am going to do this to a cheap kitchen knife. We have plenty of those. :) Jack Typical low hardness stainless steel kitchen knife blades will likely just wind up with a bend in the edge, most cheapie kitchen knives also have too thick of an edge grind for that test to work. ...

Re: Spyderco K2 RIL lock sticking
Another thing you might try is to lightly apply some degreaser to the locking tab/blade tang using a Q-tip saturated in bore cleaner. (I prefer Remington's brand of bore cleaner for this task). I've done this with a few Liner Locks, as well as integral frame locks, and it seems to help treat the &q...

What is your preferred chemical or process for getting the paint off?Bill1170 wrote:The painted clips have an understated matte finish under the easily-removed paint. They can be polished to a nice shine using a Dremel with a felt buffing wheel and some polishing compound.

Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?
I just pulled the trigger on a SB Stretch. I can't wait! Got mine last week, great knife with an awesome blade! Mine did require a bit of "tuning" however, as the tang rubbed on the inside of the FRN handle scales :P I ground the overlapping scale edges down to be flush with the liners in...

for the ultimate protection, only from reputable dealers with a "no returns" policy. In my book (I've worked in retail and CS for 25+ years) any retailer with a "no returns" policy is *not* reputable! If I'm going to pony up for a premium quality product like Spyderco, I will mo...

Shrink the stretch by 1/2", that blade pattern and the choil set it apart from the Delica/Endura/Worker with which it shares so much else.

Re: brightly colored G10 handles...
Welcome! :) :spyder: yup...they will get very dirty Two points to keep in mind: 1. Some consider dirt/grime like a patina or a "badge of honor"-- however, if you prefer the neat & tidy look... 2. Auto parts shop brake cleaner spray ( ca. $3 or $4 ) will take them back to original clea...

I'm going with the Nilakka in Vanadis 4E/Viking laminate blade at 66HRC and spalted Masur Birch scales.

Re: Fantasy knives?
Hi Chuck, I agree, but *if* it was a regular production item, it just might be possible to see G10 for a moderate price bump... and I did mention FRN in colors, which ought to cost *nothing* except for adding SKUs (which of course makes for more inventory and administration costs, but you get the po...

new thread title: G10 UKPK would be kinda cool eh?
$20 or so for a knife in the steel I want? Outstanding! Seems I totally failed on my pitch here... The (very poorly worded?) idea was that a *standard* CTS BD1 bladed UKPK offered with multiple G10 handle scale color choices would maybe be a not so pie-in-the-sky thing to hope for (as opposed to a ...

Re: Fantasy knives?
Here's the completed auction of a fake black one some poor sucker got burned badly on this one. Note the absence of clip grooves on the left side of the handle, it's they "tell" that lets me know it's a fake. Dang, that was painfully obvious! I can't imagine how anyone thought Spyderco wo...

Re: Fantasy knives?
OK, there's lots of talk here about those lusted after exotic combinations of steel and handle material, or resurrections of long retired favorite designs, but how many of us Spyderco die-hards would pony up an extra $20 or so for a regular production UKPK made in a choice of G10 handle scale color...

Re: Fantasy knives?
There are certainly combos and/or knives that don't quite exist that I would pay a premium for. The problem is would anyone else? I guess I hadn't presented my concept well enough... You have nailed it though; *I* really want a G10 handle UKPK in colors and would likely buy several colors of that k...

Swapped the black clip off my new Stretch SB within minutes of opening it!
I'd bet that the black clips would polish up nicely if you strip off the paint and then buff them.
