Re: Next Project To Revive Another GOLDEN ERA Model
This may be cheating, as I think it was produced from 1994-1996, but I can't help myself. My dream is a revival of the original C25 Frank Centofante with titanium scales, a tip-down [sorry, meant tip-up] clip (wire clip would be fine), a variety of inlay materials (polished micarta or G10 would be c...

Re: You’re all sneaky keeping the REC manix 2 to yourselves
I love the REC “colorway” (somehow the first time I heard that term was in reference to REC’s Spyderco exclusives) but it would be nice if they went with a tougher steel than CTS 204P. Can’t have everything though. This is purely academic from my perspective since I tend to steer well clear of hyped...

Mine is pretty basic. It’s a Gerstner-style chest (not a real Gerstner, sadly):

Re: Dedicated box cutter knife?
Custom maker Walter Wells built me something that comes close to what you’re describing. The blade is .044” full flat ground M2 steel at around 64 Rc: https://vimeo.com/312123079 It cuts through cardboard (and everything else) like soft butter. It is my great desire to see many, many more knives in ...

Re: Please recommend 3x Endura 4s for my use
I'm an Endura addict, and have it in every steel except AUS-6 (don't need that one!). My favorites:
1. VG-10 wharncliffe
2. V-Toku 2
3. Super Gold

Re: Stretch XL discussion
It's been a few months now and I'm just as impressed with it as I was the day I first got it. The incredibly light weight relative to the size continues to astonish, the lockup is rock solid, and the blade just glides through everything with incredible ease! https://i.imgur.com/8eUITQ0.jpg https://i...

The Kershaw Dividend (composite blade version) also had CPM D-2 in it, but perhaps it came from that same batch.yablanowitz wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 5:53 pmUnless I missed something (entirely possible), Crucible only made one batch as an experiment, and Sal bought it to use in surprise Sprint Runs of the Military and Paramilitary.

Re: Magnacut
Correct. S30V has better edge retention than MagnaCut. However, Magnacut is ~3x tougher than S30V with a much more stable edge... Which means you can take MagnaCut much thinner than S30V while keeping a fairly durable edge. Blade geometry wins over a steel's edge retention 100% of the time. Exactly...

Re: In Defense of Liners
I generally value light weight over “good action.” And there’s no real world use case in which the added strength (which is likely marginal anyways) of liners would make a difference to me. The Manix 2 LW, Native Chief and Stretch 2 XL are so good (in my opinion) partly because of how light they are...

Re: Mystery Knife Center exclusive coming 6/23
The Shaman is a bit too heavy for me, but I'm always happy to see more micarta, especially burlap. I could definitely go for a burlap micarta Native, though.

Re: Is there any interest in a THIN tool steel knife?
I’d be very, very interested in a super thin knife in a very tough and hard tool steel. By “thin” I mean thin blade stock, thin behind the edge and a very acute edge angle. It is incontrovertible that thin blades cut better and longer than thick ones. And to keep a thin edge “stable” it needs to be ...

Re: Is it time for the Delica 5?
To mean, the wharncliffe Delica 4 is nearly the perfect knife. The only minor things I would change would be as follows: 1. Get rid of the tip-down clip holes. (If I had my druthers they'd get rid of the left-hand tip-down clip holes but that would be too cruel to the lefties.) 2. Change the pocket ...

Re: How much does toughness matter?
Take a look at Larrin Thomas’s articles on “edge stability.” The way I see it, the thinner the edge, the better it cuts, and the two main factors in keeping a thin edge from failing are toughness (prevents chipping) and hardness (prevents rolling).

You can designate the materials, including blade steels and handle materials/inlays. 3. You can designate the grind type and serrations (if any). 4. You can choose the clip type and pos...

Re: Endura scale swap.
I use the same method Nick Shabazz uses in the video linked by Wartstein. Getting the hole in the lockbar lined up with the holes in the scales is the only tricky part. Sometimes what I’ve done is to put the lockbar pin in just part of the way, then, using two thumbs to push down/align the lockbar, ...
