Re: Upping the price.

What used to be a threshold of $200 for a Spyderco knife in 2019 has now literally become $250 due to two MAP changes in 2020 and 2024 plus some big jumps in MSRP during the pandemic specially in 2022. Your $200 limit now buys you a noticeably less Spyderco knife than in December 2019.

Certainly becoming harder to justify buying Spyderco. I just bought these three Maxace products for the same price as a Lil Temp in VG10 and FRN.

The Lil’ Temp with VG-10 & FRN for a dealer price of $189.00 is a good example of some of Spyderco’s absurd pricing no matter how you slice it.

Re: Spyderco 2024 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming

The Spyderco App says the blade coating is DLC. The BladeHQ price of $135.95 for Manix2 CPM-M4 DLC FRCP is great considering the regular production Manix2 CTS-BD1N DLC FRCP is $153.75.

Re: Favorite sci-fi movies?

Dune: Part Two (2024) will be in theaters this Friday, March 1, 2024 and it was filmed for IMAX . Christopher Nolan favorably compared it to The Empire Strikes Back (1980) which is arguably the best Star Wars movie. https://i.imgur.com/airnnzU.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/OApZjWh.jpeg https://youtu.be/...

Re: Upping the price.

The KnifeJoy Slysz Bowie exclusive for $450 is not as outrageous as it seems. A plain Chris Reeve Large Sebenza 31 MagnaCut is now $500. Both are very well made with matte titanium and crowned blade spine. CRK still has no Lockbar Insert/Overtravel Stop for the titanium frame lock. CRK has a nicer t...

It took a while but I just received the hard copy 2024 Product Guide. Looks great and a pleasure to browse through. Thank you Spyderco for the printed catalog.

Re: Spyderco 2024 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming

After reading this, I tried to remember what I paid for the OG Slysz Bowie. I can't remember, and cannot find that info in my email at this moment. If I had to guess, I'd say around $375, and that was probably circa 2015. The OG Slysz Bowie C186Ti - Stonewash Ti- PE - CTS-XHP was in production from...

Re: Upping the price.

Spyderco had serious issues with the ball bearing pivot on the Advocate. It was withdrawn to redesign and never recovered.

Re: Spyderco Southard

Goodness, I remember when that went down with Ketchen. And he wasn't the only scale maker to flake out. Remember Shepard Scales? The Lightning Strike Carbon Fiber (LSCF) scale and overtravel stop for my Southard was made by Shepard (Shepard Custom Concealment). It was a real pain dealing with him w...

Re: MagnaCut Production Folders

I spent about 15 minutes shopping for the lowest out the door price and there’s quite a variance. Also, several charge sales tax on top of the prices listed below: Kershaw Bel Air — MSRP: $249.99 — Amazon: $165.44 — Blade HQ: $164.95 — DLT Trading: $159.99 — House of Blades: $159.95 — Knives Ship F...

Re: Spyderco 2024 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming

No denying you did!! Just more of a grrr that my favorite vendor’s price was $299.99! The funny thing is that I actually didn’t buy my CC 087 because I thought it was too expensive (or at least my wife certainly did). Brancron bought it, sent it off to be rock-patterned (plus adding a small lockbar...

Re: MagnaCut Production Folders

I ordered a Kershaw Bel Air with MagnaCut blade, Aluminum scales and DuraLock (a Crossbar lock like the Axis lock) for $142.50 shipped. Curious to compare it to my Benchmade 945 with S30V blade, Aluminum scales and Axis Lock. Best price for a BM 945 is $186.30 shipped. Both about the same size and m...

Re: Spyderco 2024 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming

I purchased my original Slysz Bowie Folder (C186TIP) with CTS-XHP Blade and Titanium Handle in September 2014 for $279.95 from Cutlery Shoppe. So, I paid 44% off MSRP of $499.95. Nice, I purchased mine in 2018 and by then it had gone up to $299.99 The original price at NGK in September 2014 was $29...

Re: Upping the price.

This cycle of MAP enforcement started in 2014.

— Benchmade JAN 2014
— Zero Tolerance JAN 2015
— Spyderco JAN 2016

Both Reate and WE make excellent knives out of China but their prices have gone way up the past 3-4 years. That’s why WE have the Civivi and Sencut brands of budget knives.

Re: Upping the price.

Benchmade’s MAP pricing is 10% off MSRP now. The MSRP of Benchmade 945 is $230.00 so the MAP is $207.00 and that’s what you see it advertised at. However, in looking further, at least one legitimate dealer does not advertise it at $207.00 and instead once you add it to the shopping cart and proceed ...

Re: Upping the price.

We changed MAP because we need dealers and dealers need MAP if they want to bother to carry our products. Spyderco cuts a large swath in the cutlery world, a very well-respected brand, and I'd think dealers would be happy to carry Spyderco given its customer base. Are lots of dealers threatening to...

Re: Upping the price.

Hi RamZar, I guess I don't quite understand what it is you are asking us to do? I'm still in the camp that we do not build to a price point. When price is more important than product, there is always something less expensive. If the product can't survive at the price we need to operate, then it goe...
