Re: Steel Toughness
Many of us have poured over the charts regarding Steel Toughness. Some of the steels are below 10ft-lb, some as low as 5ft-lb. That seems very low to me. I don't have a torque wrench anymore but 5ft-lbs....we should be able to snap those knives in half using our bare hands right? Can anyone tell me...

Re: I Have a Crazy Request, But This Is the Place For It
Just got back. A Manix 2 FRCP or Native 5 FRN would work well.

Re: I Have a Crazy Request, But This Is the Place For It
I already have my eye on a new Delica, so an Endura or Resilience maybe. A companion for my Wharnecliffe Endura with comparable blade length.
Thanks Sal for entertaining such a crazy request. I knew you’d understand.

Re: Non-Stainless Blade Models From Spyderco
That’s ok. I like VG10. I still want a HP Delica. There’s nothing wrong with stainless. I just realized I don’t have any daily blades that aren’t. I just got a new knife in 14C28N that seems to work well and I was looking for a similar non-stainless blade to go with it. The new knife isn’t a Spyderc...

Re: Non-Stainless Blade Models From Spyderco
Just don’t have a non-stainless carry blade right now. I’m not totally against PM steels. I have not had the best of luck with the high vanadium PM steels though. XHP seems ok and I will look into the K390 as I understand it will be used in the High Performance Delica. M4 would be on too. 52100 woul...

Re: Non-Stainless Blade Models From Spyderco
Weren’t there a few with stainless laminated on Super Blue or similar? Those would also be fine for this list.

Non-Stainless Blade Models From Spyderco
Are there any models that have blades other than stainless steel that are recommended? I realized I don’t have any non-stainless blade models. I’m interested mostly in steels that aren’t PM steels.

Re: I Have a Crazy Request, But This Is the Place For It
If you're losing blade width reprofiling a factory edge you're doing it wrong. I reprofile every Spyderco I get too, but not having a finished bevel to start with would just mean more work. I’m not loosing blade width necessarily but the factory edge on many knives shows a loss of blade width from ...

Re: Sharpening Angle
The way I sharpen has been the way for nearly 25 years. I’ve recently started trying some different methods where I can see a strop being useful. I’ve also seen people “strop” their knives on a plastic cutting board and the sharpness improves.

Re: I Have a Crazy Request, But This Is the Place For It
The difference is not having to deal with a bevel that’s already there. Rebeveling from a factory edge always shows a section of edge that requires more sharpening than the rest to get it to match. 75 to 80 percent of the blade will be done but one section will have a little wobble or a higher angle...

I Have a Crazy Request, But This Is the Place For It
So if anyone will listen and not laugh, Spyderco might be the place. Would it be possible to get knives without sharpened edges? Just grind the primary bevel down to whatever thickness is normally done and stop. Let me put the actual cutting edge on the blade & without having to rebevel and repa...

Re: Sharpening Angle
Never found a strop to work very well at maintaining an edge. I don’t use them anymore for sharpening knives either though that may soon change depending on how well they work on my homemade edge pro like device (eld).

Re: I'm going to EDC PE H1 until August
Most people seem to like diamond stones when it comes to hogging off metal. I have not found them to work well in that application. However they work extremely well for applying a final coarse edge. I’ve constructed an Edge Pro Like Device (ELD) that really shows this off. I have not used it on my S...

Re: Sharpening Angle
If you want to get nutty, keep lowering the angle until you start seeing slight edge damage with your uses. If not, just match the factory angle.

Is this out or even a sure thing? This may bump my reground Delica out of my pocket. If not I hope soon. It’s almost time to regrind mine again. I’m a little afraid of how far I’ll go this time.

Re: Polished Edge: When, Why, What Steels??
If I have a multibladed pocket knife, the shortest blade will get a high polish edge. The longest blade gets a coarse edge. I also polish choppers for things like wood more than blades used for thorns or grasses. Those are big blades so it is done within reason since it takes so much time.

Re: Noob questions (3)
I don’t live or oil my knives as I live in SC. The best I’ve seen for getting tape and cardboard residue off is mineral spirits.
