Airplanes: Please explain why there is less comfort, less legroom, while the technology has advanced?

Check this out everyone: https://www.flights.com/blog/where-has-the-legroom-gone-a-brief-history-of-plane-design/ On there and elsewhere, and perhaps some of you may remember, on airplanes in past decades, there was more leg room and better services like that, and yet the technology was less advance...

Re: I never want to hear about "chippy" steel ever again

Luckily it's still that way in rural America. Still the same in rural Australia. :) I don’t think I’ve ever met a Bushy who didn’t carry some sort of knife. Not necessarily of any quality or sharp and often sharpened on a concrete step or similar but a knife non the less and they don’t go around st...

Re: I never want to hear about "chippy" steel ever again

I’ve chipped every steel I’ve used except 3v and lc200n, even at somewhat conservative angles (16-18dps). None of those steels (s30v, s35vn, s110v, aus8, vg10, 14c28n, xhp, 20cv, cruwear, zdp189, hap40, maxamet) chipped noticeably worse than any other. My knives cut hundreds of feet of cardboard to...

Re: I never want to hear about "chippy" steel ever again

Not sure why the need to cut the cardboard at all? Just slice the tape at the join like everyone else does. My keys do this job. Need is a strong word in general. Most people go through life without ever carrying a knife and will never be able to fully understand those who claim "I couldn't leave h...

Re: I never want to hear about "chippy" steel ever again

Nearly 50 years of life, 35 years of fishing and hunting, 25 years of butchering and I have never chipped a knife blade. Have damaged blades many a time, but never chipped. One of my worst knife-damage experiences was when I bought a cheapo Rigging Knife at a flea market as a kid and the seller tol...

Re: Unpublished, Unreleased Books, Songs, and other things: How is this possible?

JD, then let's picture this scenario: Let's say that the ancients made a material that is stronger and harder than diamond, and rust proof, and they put some sheets and objects made from it in a vault and buried it. Now, its the 21st century, and human explorers discover it. Would all of the media o...

Re: Para 3 Lightweight Exclusive/Sprint Hopes

Michael, if Spyderco released a Lightweight Paramilitary Tanto would you get one, and, if yes, would you want it in combo edge or plain edge?

Re: I never want to hear about "chippy" steel ever again

Larry and Darby: Do you think if Spyderco were to use the exact composition of stainless steel used on those Varusteleka Puukko knives, both the carbon and stainless, in a series of fixed blades and folders, that would minimize any possibility of being chippy or brittle? Here is the website: https:/...

Re: I never want to hear about "chippy" steel ever again

This is a great conversation but I would ask that everyone remember, Shiny Footprints. We can discuss people and their experiences without insults. If we can't, are we any better than those being discussed? This forum is different not just because of our discussions but because of how we have those...

Re: Opinions Wanted: Top 5 Best Spydercos

Do you mean for our own personal use, or, from what we see others using? I would say for me it would be, when it comes to actual use, I would say the Pacific Salt and the Byrd Cara Cara 2.

1 Byrd Cara Cara 2
2 Pacific Salt
3 Endura
4 Delica
5 Centofante 3

Water in the steel making process.

Something that has always interested me in regards to steel production is the use of water in the processes. How much and how it is used. Could a waterless steel manufacturing process be made? I know nowadays there are non-water methods of tempering and heat treatment, such as cryogenics and liquid ...

Re: Top Chilli tips?

demoncase, would fish based chili be good or do seafood and chili not mix? Like if a person put pieces of tuna, salmon, crab, or other sea meats, into chili with traditional sauces and beans or no beans, would that be good or not likely?

Blankets: Best materials and best choices: What say you?

When it comes to blankets for both warmth and comfort and also durability and price points, what do you all suggest? I have seen military surplus wool and cotton and synthetic fabrics and also moving blankets and more. Hudson Bay seems to make some good ones. I saw ads for moving blankets that are d...

Unpublished, Unreleased Books, Songs, and other things: How is this possible?

Everyone, I have a question about something. I read recently that there exist songs, poems, hymns, and materials, both spiritual/religious and secular, that famous and not famous writers, authors, song-writers and others who died and even ones who are still alive, did not or have not released and wh...

Re: Stable and Lightweight Neutronium or Quarkonium Knife: What would you do with it?

No worries mate. always interesting to discuss this sort of thing.. I have read that some particle physicists feel that understanding the quantum vacuum would solve a lot of the problems of quantum physics, including the cosmological constant problem. Personally I feel that the things that could be...

Re: Leaving computers/electronic devices on or turn them off?

Here is a related question: If you leave your computer on all the time, someone told me, then it becomes more vulnerable to hackers and viruses. Is that true or false, and that as long as you have good anti virus protection your machine will be okay?

Laminated Steel Question: Is it truly stronger/tougher than non-laminated?

I was looking for the Knife Steel Nerds article that Larrin wrote about laminated steel, or was there one about this? I ask because I read claims by some custom, hand-made, and manufactured knife makers who have said that laminated carbon and laminated stainless steel blades are stronger and tougher...
