I just got my M4, planning on carrying it today. Love the skeletonized liners and everything else about it. Seriously wondering (worried) if this'll replace my black Manix 2 as an EDC.

Can't do anything that's non-reflective like CF/G10 on the 50-1000x setup, since the light has to reflect from the metal and back through the lens to get a picture.

However, the mirror polish vs bead blast should definitely be doable! When I get a hold of each of them I'll get pictures.

I think that your photos are great. I have been messing with a cheap Veho at.. supposedly 400X and getting the lighting and angles correct is a real pain. What you have here is orders of magnitude better than anything that I have achieved. Great stuff. That PDF was recomended to me a while back and...

Try this: http://www.bushcraftuk.com/downloads/pdf/knifeshexps.pdf Very cool reading, and I definitely agree with them that optical microscopy is really limited by depth of field. I've tried to alleviate that (and I think it's actually done a decent job for being a computer-generated process) by us...

I would be interested to see you flick close it one handed, I was starting to doubt that it was possible, it seems that even with the ball fully retracted it still makes contact with the tang, not allowing it to swing, I can flick close all my p'kals but they are cbb. I find it easier to close two ...

Agreed. I took my first look and gagged a little, but the longer I stared at it the better it got. So ordered one up when I could finally find it in stock and it's in my pocket right now. Love it!

Just dig in on the lock with your thumb and press above the hole with your index finger. Still leaves three fingers on the knife. Wonder if I work it enough it'll become free-swinging like my Manix.

You'll have to look at microstructures to know for sure. This involves mounting and polishing samples as close or closer than the .3 micron level, then etching the surface with an acid solution containing nitric, hydrochloric or picric acid. After that, take a look at it on a microscope and you'll b...

i find it difficult to close. is that just me and fat finger syndrome? Fresh out of the box mine was pretty tough. I thought about cutting down the G10 a little more but didn't want to do anything drastic so instead I cut my fingernails. That helped. Last night I put a few drops of Tuf-Glide on the...

As promised, here are pictures of a factory fresh orange S30V Dodo. Looks like the blade is sharpened at a steeper angle on the bug side compared to the origin side. I'll try and get pictures of the slightly different grind tomorrow. The 10-63x pictures were on the origin side, what I guess is close...

The metallograph is built for a 90° angle so you can put mounted samples on the stage and look at them. Since the light comes up through the lens, reflects, and goes back down this works the best. However, I've been throwing the knives up any way I can get them to cooperate with the combination of s...

So if there a prob like an off center blade or a scuff then I should ship my brand new knife to Spyderco and wait a few weeks to get it back when the whole time the dealer could have just taken 2 minutes to do a quick inspection to make sure everything was in proper order before shipping it to me ?...

Received the M4 Manix2 and the S30V Dodo today. Threw the Dodo onto the table and got factory edge pictures at 10, 25, 40 and 63x. I should be able to get the higher-mag ones as well this evening. Don't know if I'll be able to do the Elmax and M4 today but there's going to be something new in this t...
