Re: Would you keep this Southard?
I've found a way to unlock it that makes it easier: I keep it in the normal in-use position, and simply use my right index finger to pull the frame lock over. The blade readily drops down, and I can then flip it over and close it with my thumb.

Re: Would you keep this Southard?
I really appreciate the replies. I think I will be keeping this bad boy for myself. (I have a Manix2 I can pass off as new to give as a gift. :) ) A few posts up, I mentioned that the frame lock on this one is stiffer than on my own Southard. (I know it sounds crazy, but it's absolutely true. I'd sa...

Re: Would you keep this Southard?
No, what I'm getting at about the wear marks on the rear of the tang isn't a cosmetic issue, but whether it could mean the lock is defective. (I am not making this claim; I am just wondering based on my limited knowledge.)

Re: Would you keep this Southard?
Thanks for the replies.
I just noticed that there are wear marks on the tang on not just the front but also on the rear, where the frame lock engages. My own Southard has them only on the front. I'm no expert but I thought that only the front should be making contact...

Would you keep this Southard?
I'm gifting a friend with a black Southard (I know, I'm great, aren't I?). I just received this one from a reputable dealer, and I know it's not a fake. Anyway, the recipient is the pickiest person I've ever known. So when I saw that the lock on this one is starting out at almost 2/3 of the way over...

Glad to hear you are ok after that :spyder: -bite. I think this is why I really like my lock back's. ;) You mean back locks? Yeah, now that I've had a slew of different types of knives, I appreciate my Stretches more than ever. After using other knives for awhile, the Stretch just feels so nice and...

Hah, Random Dan, you sadist! :) It has been 4 days, so it's well into the healing process by now. I changed the bandage earlier, and it looks really boring. No blood, and no sign of infection whatsoever, which is great, but uncommon for me. A pic when it had just happened would have been nothing but...

Strong detent on Techno left me in stitches
I obtained a Techno last week. I was loving the knife until I tried a controlled one-hand opening. The detent is so strong that I ended up cutting my thumb pretty badly. How it happened: With my thumb in the Spydie hole, I had started applying force to overcome the detent. When it finally gave way, ...

I don't know what the OP is talking about. I have about 20 Spyderco knives, and while some are lackluster in one way or another IMO, many of them are indeed excellent. It's all in what you value. I don't own--and never will own a Sebenza, because I don't believe in spending a ridiculous sum for a po...

You guys saying PE sucks at cutting branches, you're doing it wrong. You don't use a sawing motion to cut them, you use a whittling motion...cut slices into the branch, deeper each time until you're through it. My Military can handle 1 inch branches with one push cut. If anyone can do that with ser...

Tip-up or tip-down, I try to always have the spine of the knife against the seam of the pocket. Oh, and removing knives from the pants before taking them off and putting them on helps too. :) Yeah, but sometimes you're in a hurry to get 'em off. :) I carry mine tip-up, but I keep the blade side as ...

I use a serrated Tenacious. It works great, and it's cheap enough that I don't feel guilty using it on the rougher stuff like cutting weeds or branches or whatever. The serrations are really a necessity for that type of stuff. I've found that even the sharpest plain edges suck at cutting branches of...

By now I have a good idea what I like. So I think about the options available that I don't already have--usually blade steel, sometimes scale material and blade steel. Then, I tell myself how ridiculous it would be to spend the money on a new knife that I clearly don't need. Finally, I have two glas...

How do you like it compared to PM2? I am trying to figure out my collection needs/wants/desires, I'm new. The blade lengths seem similar. Do you have a need for both knives or is about collecting/using something a little different? No, I absolutely did not need the Caly3.5. I just wanted it, to be ...

Wow--it was all about the lube. I must have received this knife absolutely dry . After simply adding a little lube, it works great. It flicks well, and closes easily. I've never had this issue with other Spydercos. One thing I don't care for about this knife is that for one-handed closing, I have to...

Thanks for the replies. Indeed, I guess the clip is just meant to be that way. Like I said, though, if I depress the lock, the blade swings really easily. The pivot itself is great. It's just the lock that makes it tight. I guess I'm just used to my Stretches. I'll hold off on lubing it to accelerat...
