I like shorter blades in folders and longer in fixed blades. I actually prefer carrying the smallest knife that can get the job done, but ergos are really important. At home (around the farm) or in the field I carry a Paramilitary. I have tried longer blades, but I have small hands and it is awkward...

In my pocket - Paramilitary.
In the turkey - my 10" spyderco chef's knife.
On the counter - my sharpmaker, keepin' the cuttin' clean.
The pie - just a fork please

Got these from Eric Isaacson (of Swamprat reknown), made by his daughter Bria. Really nice work. The black and white one is reflective (the white part). I don't have the Manix80. Its on my list, but not yet. Anyway, I love the paramilitary - great materials, blade, lock, etc. Very versatile, very carryable. It's been my #1 field knife since I bought it (when I'm in the office I carry a smaller knife, so as not to set off anybody's alarms).
