I like shorter blades in folders and longer in fixed blades. I actually prefer carrying the smallest knife that can get the job done, but ergos are really important. At home (around the farm) or in the field I carry a Paramilitary. I have tried longer blades, but I have small hands and it is awkward...

In my pocket - Paramilitary.
In the turkey - my 10" spyderco chef's knife.
On the counter - my sharpmaker, keepin' the cuttin' clean.
The pie - just a fork please ;)

Does anyone have some cord with a reflective stripe in it, or know where to find it? That's the type of stuff I'd like to use for a nice lanyard. In addition to REI and probably other sources, I found my reflective cord at a small business in Duluth called dogbooties.com that sells musher hardware ...

Not much to add here. I have several fixed blades in this size range from several companies and the Temperance is easily the best slicer/cutter in the batch. Thin blade, VG10 - all good. I use it mostly in the kitchen, but it would definitely be a good MBC knife (what it was designed for ?). I don't...

runningdog, Thanks for sharing. That one with the reflective cord looks cool. The black and white contrasts nicely with the red cord it’s tied with. You'll have to show us a better pic of those Busses sometime. I'd love to show the ocelot, but no pics yet. My Paramil is getting a tail too. Here is ...

Got these from Eric Isaacson (of Swamprat reknown), made by his daughter Bria. Really nice work. The black and white one is reflective (the white part). Illuminates very well under a flashlight or headlamp. These are on a couple of Busses, but I'm going to put one of the reflectives on my wife's xma...

Persian 75mm

I made the mistake of browsing on the catalog pages and saw a pic of the Persian75. I want another Ocelot when the budget allows, but that Persian75 is a purty knife. Another one for the list...

 I beg to differ.... VG-10 is THEEEEE "top" steel! IMHO anyway  ( I agree !!! Hence the quotes "top". S30V is what shows up on most mfrs "top of the line knives" - it is a good steel too, of course, the flavor of the month, but I actually prefer spyderco...

nice knife

Just received "my" Ocelot from NGK (fast service and good price, as usual - thanks). OK, 1st - I know VG10 is not the "top" steel in the current pecking order... but, it makes really good blades. I love VG10 as a knife steel. I know that was not the issue, but I just wanted to ge...

Well, so much for "discovering" generalities. I was sure that nobody could take issue with the Delica :o :( :D Anybody NOT like the Chinook II / Stretch / Persian shape ? Another really basic characteristic - preferences for flat (e.g. Military, Delica family, etc) versus "3D" sc...

I don't have the Manix80. Its on my list, but not yet. Anyway, I love the paramilitary - great materials, blade, lock, etc. Very versatile, very carryable. It's been my #1 field knife since I bought it (when I'm in the office I carry a smaller knife, so as not to set off anybody's alarms).

Your favorite handle ?

I don't remember if this has been done (here[recently]). If so, anybody know the thread ? (I'm on a slow computer with a slow connection or I'd do a search). If not, what is your favorite knife handle , in terms of size and shape (not material), and any manufacturer ? I realize this is a matter of p...

yah, lets keep this thread going (who knows, it might count for something) What it did to me is make me carry my Temperance again. This is one fantastic cutter, and I love VG10. In response to earlier commentary - what to do to improve its prospects ? - I like the blade - I'd prefer an inch s...

But I can not use a knife with metal handles in the winter where I live - it just sucks the heat out of my hands, even thr...

Some good ideas here. On length - I have several small (3" or less) fixed blades. I like them enough to keep them, but I have 2 problems with most of them: 1. They overlap too much with a good folder in what they can be used for and are still not as easy/convenient to carry as the folder (a spy...
