Re: Steak Knife Recommendations

Sorry don't have any specific recommendations but if you look on Amazon there are pages of different steak knife sets. I have an old Japanese made set by Farberware. Nothing fancy but the get very sharp and serve their purpose. They work just as well as my Wustof's. Good luck in your search, let us ...

Re: Gift for new sailor

Native 5 Salt is amazing. Have had it in my pocket ever since my girlfriend gave it to me on Christmas. The LC200N steel has been awesome, gets very sharp, holds its edge a good long time and is easy to sharpen. I dont think you can go wrong with this knife. Welcome to the forum. At present, I agree...

Re: Sushi, Raw and Undercooked Foods: How to be safe?

I love sashimi and raw oysters. We have some of the best oysters in our area. The key is knowing the source. "Fresh" is a relative term. Back in the commercial fishing days we would stay out 3 or 4 days. So the fish caught on the first day would be 3 or 4 days old when we got back to the dock. May s...

Re: Which Knife Steels Have the Best Corrosion Resistance

Another great article. I long ago opted out from carrying ZDP-189 around saltwater. While classified as stainless, I found it rusts and pits much quicker than most other "stainless" steels. Your explanation helps to better understand why. Though the list confirms many of my experiences, I'll definit...

I prefer the handles on the K04, and K05, they see a lot of use.

Surprised no mention of the Stretch. It's a great fit, great in the hand. The Aqua Salt is hard to beat.

Re: Have a weird hobby that's hard to explain.

Seeing the BMX pics reminds me of nearly being arrested over a couple of bikes. In the mid to latter 70's my Schwinn Continental was stolen so I went and bought new 3 speed Raleigh's for my wife and I. Back then, money was really tight and I took them straight to the Police station to have them regi...

Re: NCAA Football

May be the 2 best QB's in the country playing tonight. Tua throws an incredibly beautiful pass, nearly perfect every time. Murray plays with such heart and overall skill ,including his scrambling ability. A team player and leader. Fun to watch these two, though tired of the Bama dominance.

Re: NCAA Football

Well, what a weekend. A few things..... Ohio State crushed Michigan. - But, I am still not convinced that they are top 4 quality. Getting absolutely mauled by Perdue and just barely escaping Maryland leaves heavy doubt in my mind. Notre Dame remains undefeated. - But, who in the hell have they beat...

Re: Sharpening Stone Recommendation for Beginner

I would second (or third :p ) the Norton. Inexpensive, effective, and if dropped, not out too much. For years that's all we used when commercial fishing. They will dish with use, but that can be remedied.

Re: The Year Of Our Lord 1969

I have CRS syndrome but remember 69 pretty well. Had a Jeep universal that got traded in for the 69 Toyota Landcruiser. What a great vehicle. Hit the dunes in Daytona routinely. The Toyota and Gates Sand Commando's left other 4WD's behind. It was a great time, could pull people out that were stuck ...
