DMT is the bee's knees for the coarser grits. No two ways about it.

For waterstones, look into Shapton. Good stuff.

do other DVDs work on your player? It's a cheap DVD player, so not ALL other DVDs work -- most do. But my computer DVD player reads anything , but has to skip over the end because of damage (it says so when it tries to skip to the next non-damaged portion of the DVD). So there's something wrong wit...

Corrupt Sharpmaker DVD

My Sharpmaker arrived in the mail today. My kitchen knives are already sharper than they've ever been. Yay! The instructional DVD is somehow messed up, though. It won't play at all in my DVD player, and only goes until about the part where Sal talks about router bits and stuff. I missed out on how t...

I don't have a DMT coarse stone, but I do have the Fine/X-fine which I use in advance of polishing on a waterstone for chisel and plane blades. I would agree that for the kind of fast stock removal required for a reprofiling, a big wide diamond stone will prove far preferable to the tiny rods of the...

Hi Mitko, Thanx much for the kind words. Our craftsman, Hristo, that operates our laser and grinders is also from Bulgaria, and he contributes a great deal to our quality. sal Sal, you rule. Unfortunately, "should" can be descriptive of a prediction of likelihood, as in "you should be able to get there in about an hour," but also carries a normative connotation, as in "you should stop smoking." Hopefully, Sal is using the word in its descriptive mode.

I've been rocking the Urban Orange for the last few weeks, and it's really one of those knives that you can clip it on and forget it's there. (Hopefully, I won't ever forget to pull it out of my jeans before it goes in the laundry.) Slices great, too.

The great thing about Wharncliffe blades is that one can push the blade straight up the stone, rather than having to perform a curved motion to accommodate the belly. It significantly simplifies the process.

Next: Prolly Sage III
Most Anticipated: Dialex Jr. (if the blade comes in at 3" or below, otherwise I'll just cry myself softly to sleep for a few weeks)

I am not a NY lawyer, but if NY is at all like most jurisdictions, they do not look kindly on laymen providing legal advice. Just sayin', is all.

The Sharpmaker is basically just an angle-setting jig. Its purpose is to obviate the users' need to develop a sophisticated sense of blade angle. So, you will not learn that skill if you are using the Sharpmaker. You will still need to learn other skills.

If it's legal it's legal. Following what one perceives to be the officer's "wide spread belief" in order to model our behavior is something we do everyday, I supose. It's why I don't have a mohawk, drive a motorcycle or have tatoos, but that shouldn't mean that I should be disallowed from...

Although I am a California lawyer, you should not regard this as advice in the course of legal representation. I think the various second-hand accounts of the cops' understanding of the laws should be controlling. One could perhaps argue successfully in court that a blunt-tip knife is neither a dirk...
