I actually prefer both knives in FRN, regardless of the cost differences. I find the G-10 versions to be heavy for size and stiff. The smaller size decreases leverage when opening and both are harder to open one-handed (than the FRN versions). Anything that FRN gives up in strength is inconsequentia...

Glad you didn't lose it to the TSA. As for your trip home, from what I hear, airlines charge though the nose for checked bags. Mailing back home might be a cost effective alternative. I'll refrain from making the obvious pun. ;) Correct, and that would have been my choice except I am a frequent fli...

Took a Bradley Air through airport security

I'm in Las Vegas for a guy's weekend. I put on a pair of jeans and found my Bradley Air in the pocket. Since I flew to LV that means I accidentally took it through airport security. Pretty sure this doesn't speak too well for the TSA.

BTW, I'm checking the bag on the way home.

Gentleman's knife: Wood. Cocobolo off the top of my head. Rescue knife: FRN in a bright color EDC: Something that appeals every time I pick it up. Mostly CF. Textured or fluted titanium, too. Hard use: probably FRN. It's cheap and very durable. If you need something tougher, you probably need a fixe...

I guess some folks feel more secure with a g10 knife but do you have any data that a FRN nested liner knife is any weaker? More often than not liners are added to increase rigidity and hardware attachment points like for clips. They do reinforce the pivot but not because they are thick. That and I'...

I'd be all over a rookie sprint. I like the idea of CF scales and an upgraded steel, although the G-10 and vg-10 are perfectly fine. Deep carry clip.

The small Sebenza is a great knife, no doubt. The two primary things that a Sage has over the Sebenza are a Spyder hole and a deep cary clip. FWIW I sold my Sebenza and kept the Sage. I didn't sell my Mnandi, although now that I have a Bradley Air, it might go too...

Spyderco Dive Knife

Looking for a dive knive and therefore looking for a Spyderco. Options: Aqua - out of production, hard to find. Caspian - out of production, easier to find. Looks great for gloved hands but I don't usually wear gloves. Pacific Salt, Atlantic Salt - I don't usually think of a folder for a dive knife ...

I like the CF better. The Ti scales are beautiful but scuff easily. The CF shows less light wear, but MIGHT take less abuse. No mistake with either one, though. Both are among my favorite Spydercos.

Lanyard bead source

I just bought a G-10 Manbug. For me, with my size hands, a knife this size needs a lanyard. It's just easier to hold and open with one. Looking for a nice lanyard bead. Not into skulls or similar. Peter Atwood makes great beads (landslides) and I may just have to buy one off eBay because, as far as ...

If I were making recommendations, I would build a Sharpmaker II with a red plastic base and include extra coarse and extra fine rods (with the assumption that you already have the standard rods). Then I would set the angles at something like 26 and 22 degrees and you're good to go. OTOH I think that...

I just don't get a folding kitchen knife. A folding knife that you can use for kitchen prep in a pinch, sure. But why would you make a kitchen knife harder to clean? Ane why would you want to carry one around with you? Oh, well - my mother used to say "to each his own, as Sally kissed the cow.&...

It's a brass Peter Atwood lanslide. You can get them directly from him if you are very lucky, or on eBay.

Four Gentleman's knives (only two Spyderco)

Below is a photo for comparison purposes of four knives that I would call gentleman's knives. I'm a fan of small knives and thought I would give my thoughts. Top to bottom: Benchmade Shoki Chris Reeve Mnandi Spyderco Bradley Air Spydero Dragonfly 2 (clip removed, lanyard added) Sorry the pic is too ...

I think the answer is clearly the Delica/Endura line. FRN is a nearly ideal handle material - lightweight, grippy, and nearly indestructible. It isn't outperformed by any of the higher end materials, it's just not as cool. I love carbon fiber/G-10/Ti scales as much as anyone, but they pretty much ex...

I agree. I added an aftermarket deep cary clip and it's nearly perfect.

The Chokwe is just about perfect for a knife it's size. I generally prefer smaller knives so I bought a Leafstorm. IMO the design has serious problems. If you try to get a firm grip on it, you WILL cut yourself. Otherwise it's nicely built of nice materials, but it's just a bad design. Of these two,...

Spyderco Customer Service (Thumbs Up)

So yesterday I was doing some errands outside (brewing beer to be honest) when I felt a tug on my right pocket - the one with my Caly 3 in it. A few minutes later I noticed that the wire clip had broken off. http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii50/jldecarlo/Calyclip.jpg Today I called Spyderco Facto...
