Yet another Delica
I recently got my fifth(?) Delica, this one has the fully-serrated VG-10 blade. This is my third knife in VG-10 (the others are a SS Police and an Endura), and it continues to be one of my all-time favorite steels. I have found over the years I prefer the Delica in all-serrated, and I like the subtl...

Thanks for the replies, everyone. J.Smith: I'm not yet sure of the true differences between S30V and 440V (S60V?). The only knife I currently own in 440V is the Millie, and the only one I have in S30V is the Sebenza. Both are excellent but I've not honestly used them hard enough yet to detect much d...

Military in S30V?
I haven't been on any forums in awhile but I heard that the Military would be switching its blade steel from S60V (440V) to S30V. If so, has the switch happened yet?
Thanx for any response.
Jim

VG-10 Delica 50/50 most common?
I've been waiting to find a VG-10 Delica SE but all the shops that carry the new VG-10 versions seem to always be the combo edge. Which is not bad, but I prefer the Delica in all SE or all PE (but looking for the SE). For the new steel changeover, did Spyderco make more 50/50 versions than all the r...

I'm not actually a student, but I work as a captioner for deaf students in universities and community colleges, so I will be back on a couple campuses again. I usually carry whatever I always carry anyway. The only knife I bring out is either my Victorinox Classic or Leatherman Micra, and that's onl...

It appears many of the knives manufactured for Al Mar in Japan are made by the same Seki-City makers who product Spyderco's Seki clipits. Therefore I would say overall the quality is very comparable. I do not own an Al Mar yet, but have had an on/off interest in the SERE 2000 and maybe a Hawk folder...

It seems to me that the SS Police model shows up in movies more than any other single Spyderco model. I've seen it in Training Days, The Client, Jennifer Eight, Fight Club, etc. I saw a SS Mariner used by a villain preparing to attack Lindsay Wagner in a TV movie once too. The first time I actually ...

I own 3 Speedsafes; a Chive, a Blackout, and the one like the Chive but bigger (man, the name escapes me at the moment). I still prefer the Spydie hole by a giant margin. The Speedsafe is a cool feature, but over time not as reliable as the Spydie hole. A Spydie hole will never wear out or break. I'...

IMO comparable for the price range include the Benchmade 710 and probably the Al Mar SERE 2000 (but I don't own an Al Mar yet so can't say for sure). In fact, with so many high-quality knives out there, there is plenty of competition these days. That said, if you want a performing cutting tool, I wo...

I have 3 versions of the SS Police, one PE, one SE, and one 50/50 (60/40?). The combo is my new one, it's in VG-10, and is one of my current EDC's. I like all 3 versions, but I find the combo can really fit this length of blade. Haven't put it to too much use yet (got it a few days ago) but like its...

I must admit at the moment my favorite knife steel is Benchmade's 440C. THat said, I like VG-10 a close second. 440V I like but am not so sure of overall, because I'm reluctant to use my Military enough to need to resharpen it (I've heard it can be a horror to resharpen). I prefer steels that take a...

I prefer to press the locking lever with my thumb while I use the index finger to push the Spydiehole, then switch the grip to completely close the blade with my thumb. It sounds more complicated, but for me I prefer it to the blade dropping onto index finger method (also works better for knifes tha...
