Re: What is this on the new Spydiechef lock bar?

Every Taichung framelock I’ve owned has the same cabidized lock face as shown in the pics, that includes 2x first gen Spydiechef’s, 3x Techno’s, a K2 and a Slysz Bowie. So it’s not a new thing and just like on CRKs it can wear through, my well used Spydiechef has worn through the carbidizing and dev...

Re: Why Don't You Like Framelocks?

I like a well made/designed framelock but have become very picky and wary over time as there is so much variation in effectiveness from manufacturer to manufacturer and even knife to knife. They now have to pass a couple of simple tests to stay around.

Does the clading process of the Caly blade change the ZDP properties somehow ?

Ken
That's an interesting question! Like galvanic corrosion and the ZDP acts as a sacrificial steel. Would be very interested in hearing from someone that is knowledgeable about such things.

Re: First knife S110v - help me not screw it up.

I just received a P3 in S110V, I put it to use immediately and found it lost it's edge far too quickly, I sharpened it up with the brown stones to shaving sharp, it continued to loose it's edge quickly. I redid the edge and did a nasty cardboard comparison with VG10, it's edge completely crumbled an...

Re: H1 steel plain edge retention

I'm not a VG10 lover but have used it a bit, in my Pepsi challenge VG10 has better edge retention than H1 PE by a noticeable margin, now LC200N vs VG10 is a different story, they appear to be much closer.

Re: What's the best Spyderco that doesn't exist?

Flipper - Advocate with M390/XHP/LC200N, ceramic bearings + detent. No orange peel, just stonewashed Ti.

Standard - Spydiechef with lock bar insert and Dodo clip.

Re: The Advocate - An Official Statement from Spyderco

I agree, the Advocate is simply a fantastic design, so slim and comfortable in hand, multiple opening methods, finger choil, almost all the things on my flipper wish list....It really would be perfect for me and my uses if it was offered with a stainless blade, M390 or whatever really, the M4 limits...

Re: Elmax in Golden made knives

ELMAX is a good steel, but not really all that different then S30V or S35VN in production blades. Personally I would rather see RWL-34 or CPM 154. :D I've had experience with Elmax, S30V and S35VN, I've had better luck with the Elmax so it's my preference of the 3, I'm yet to try but am very intere...

Re: LC200N Caribbean

I am quite excited to see LC200N added to the line up. I am looking forward to my first knife in the steel so I can put it through its paces. Now here is my question: If LC200N is a little better than VG-10 in edge retention, is it as easy to sharpen? (some steels can be a bear) I can't tell a diff...

Might just be an optical illusion, when I zoom right in I see the front edge has been eased which is normal and the rest of the ramp looks straight, I think it's good to go.

The wait is starting to hurt....I've been carrying a Spydiechef for the past year or so and love the steel for EDC and carefree saltwater antics, really looking forward to having it in a fixed blade!

I've sure got my eye on it, it being called the "Redback Spyder" (https://youtu.be/DEROO4DgeTo; work the link to see Eric in Germany previewing other new knives as well). That's a cool name ;) , for anyone that is unaware, Redback is the name of a famous/infamous Australian spider picture...

Re: CPM-M4 and the Sharpmaker

I find M4 easier than 110v, after re-profiling my M4 mule on the diamond rods I have no problems doing touch ups with the ceramics, and after a quick strop it splits hairs.

Re: Shipping of internal parts

I don't know how all knife companies deal with spares but will display the ones I do know. ZT/Kershaw send out most parts for free, an excellent service that puts them at the top of the heap, things like fancy pivots and milled clips need to be paid for, which is very fair. Benchmade send out many p...

Re: Disapointed with customer service..

Whilst it can be inconvenient, there are not many makers that sell or willingly send out internal parts, Spyderco, Benchmade and CRK won't, however ZT/Kershaw do! and whilst I applaud them for it, I don't see it becoming the norm...

Re: Spydiechef or slys bowie

The Bowie is my favourite Spyderco that I never use....while it feels fairly good in hand, has too much belly though still functions well and is the best finished and sexiest Spydie I've owned, I simply find the Spydiechef is the most useful and comfortable EDC and general use folding knife. The lac...
