Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?
My Manix 2 LW Salt in MagnaCut is on its way back from warranty service tomorrow. I wound up buying a Native 5 Salt in MagnaCut while it was off for repair (it arrived at the very start of January with really terrible lock stick that I think was from a defect in the ball bearing), and now I don't kn...

Re: What "others" are in the mail?
I've got a Kershaw Livewire in the mail. First OTF I've purchased. Let us know what you think of the Livewire. Action? Ergos? Sound? I got my first OTF, a BM Shootout, last week. I love the blade shape and the handle ergos. Only negative is the sound it makes when it fires, kind of a ker-chunk plas...

New Midnight Blue AWT scales for my Native 5 in MagnaCut. The addition of washers makes the action flawless. This one is a keeper.

Re: What does “ergonomic” mean to you?
I used to be a lot more concerned with how close I got my hand to the cutting edge than I am now. What I realized is it's extremely rare I'd use the heel of the blade and an index choil at yhe same time, because then what I'm cutting bumps into my thumb. With cardboard it'd do worse - it'd cut my t...

Re: Price increases for 2024
Anyone seen any Spyderco price changes at U.S. dealers? I checked a few dealers for a few items and don’t see any price increases or decreases… Bumping this because Chicago Knife Works is one of the only retailers I've seen so far that has updated most of their prices. Seems like most knives I chec...

Re: If laws and public perception were no issue, would you carry a different knife?
We don't have terribly restrictive laws here in Oregon I'd say. I don't care for some of the restrictions that do exist - like the ones on spring-assisted opening knives or balisongs - but I also don't personally have a desire to carry those kind of knives. So while I'd like to see those laws change...

Re: What Spyderco Knife Has Surprised You the Most and Why
I've only recently owned any Spyderco knives - the first was the CruWear/Purple Para 3 they had on sale during Black Friday, followed by a pair of Manix 2 Lightweights (the Rex 45/White model and the MagnaCut/Yellow Salt). Both of them were pretty much exactly what I expected, other than maybe the s...

Re: What’s your favourite exclusive for future models?
Tough call for me between Rex45 / White and CruWear / Purple. I settled on the latter but I own both (and will probably try to get more in these pairs in the future).

Current Salt models - hardware differences?
These are mostly questions for Sal or anyone else that works at Spyderco (or those that may have already seen them answer these questions), but what are the current Salt models using for hardware to resist corrosion? I know the newest Salt models seem to have coated screws and pocket clips; are thes...

Re: Native 5 Lightweight - Lube pivot or not?
Thanks for the responses. There isn't really any issue with the action of my Native, it was just a thought that crossed my mind because I do not own any other knives where the blade rides directly on the scale material. I'm going to just oil it like any other knife.

Native 5 Lightweight - Lube pivot or not?
Kind of a random question, but I just received a Native 5 Lightweight today and wasn't sure this was a good idea. While normally I'd consider adding a couple drops of KPL onto a new knife pivot, I know that the Native 5 LW models do not run on washers and the blade is just riding on the FRN (with so...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
I've got a few days off in a row here, so I decided to grab another one of my older knives to get more sharpening practice in tonight. This time it was the Kizer Assassin XL in 154CM. I treat this knife fairly poorly if I'm being honest; it's something of a beater, and one I would often keep in the ...

New arrival today, Native 5 Salt in MagnaCut. Haven't used a lockback in a long time, but I'm liking how it feels in the hand.

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Figured I'd write some notes after my second day of learning how to sharpen with a guided arm style system (Worksharp Professional Precision Adjust). I am a pretty novice sharpener overall, generally just using either a Worksharp Field Sharpener or having a more skilled sharpener clean up my knives ...

Re: Thoughts on Hogue Deka?
I have a MagnaCut deka and the blade is not soft, it performs very well. It might be softer than internet experts think it should be, but it performs well. The pocket clip sucks though. My first one broke and hogue replaced it for free, the replacement took a set to it. I didn’t abuse it just carry...

Re: What knife is best for…
The Manix 2 I still have on me is in Rex 45, and that thing devours cardboard. Probably the best folder I have for big push cut work like that. My only other Spyderco currently is the Para 3, which seems more like a light work EDC kind of knife. Not that it isn't sturdy, but the blade shape and size...

Re: EDC recommendation: Native 5 LW – S30V or SPY27?
Personally, I'd go for the SPY27 model of those two. That said, the Native 5 LW Salt is only a few more dollars compared to the SPY27 version and comes in MagnaCut, which I'd put above both of those choices. So, if you are already willing to spring for the SPY27 (which I think is about ~20 dollars m...
