Re: Canvas micarta scales
After having my crucarta PM2 for a week now, I understand the love for micarta and the crucarta combo. Grippy, nautral, develops its own unique patina... I might have to make myself a set for the Mule now. Does micarta sand similarly to G10? Easier? Harder? Does it want to gum up paper? Any tips or ...

Re: Seconds Sale Oddities - Receive anything weird to share? I did!
My interesting oddities include... The Serrations on the SE Ayoob are not perpendicular to the blade, they are tilted towards the handle by about 10*, plus a snaggletooth. Not a big deal overall. The one I am marginally peeved about, though, is my 3 knives were just placed in a box, touching each ot...

Re: Using graphite and other dry lubes
I have been using Slip2000 EWL silicone lube. Any knife with a oil-bronze bushing LOVES it. Once it penetrates overnight and you wipe away the excess, the action is so smooth it feels fluid, like a high quality photography fluid head. This is the case with my PM2s and Ayoob. Not so much the case on ...

Re: Seconds Sale Oddities - Receive anything weird to share? I did!
I think "Porosity" is the term for small voids between grains. This may be a result of gasses being trapped in the steel during the initial pour failing to off gas prior to solidifying. Or they could be grain boundary inclusions too. It was a flaw in the original steel, not a manufacturing...

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
I only confetti'd some printer paper as a test, and actually it's one of the sharpest out of the box. It Push cut paper with no resistance and a single clean line despite the serrations.

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
Just got my 2nd from the sale. It has a snaggletooth, but more interestingly the serrations are not perpendicular to the blade axis. They tilt to the right 5-10° if you look closely. It slightly distorts the spyder pattern too. Everything else is perfect. Overall no big deal for a hundred bucks. Las...

Re: Apologies - 2023 Spyderco Online Factory Seconds Sale
Even though the online sale wasn't exactly smooth, I, and most others, have zero ability to buy seconds without it, so I'll take a rough online sale over no online sale any day. Hopefully incremental improvements will be made each time, but either way I'll be back for more. Looking forward to the ne...

Aftermarket DLC coating experiences?
I like DLC. It has a nice look, is super hard, and helps a little with corrosion resistance. I'm thinking of doing it to one or 2 of my knives with an aftermarket DLC coating service. Are there any annealing concerns with CruWear, S90V or 15V in particular? I commonly see temps of 350F / 180c used d...

Re: Spyderco Seconds Sale Scores
Spyderco makes significantly more knives that I don't like than knives I like so the mystery boxes were a non-starter for me. Not that I ever actually had a chance to even see the option to add one to my cart at any point. Spydercos are the only knives I collect, but as you say, I like a minority o...

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
I'm excited to receive mine and it will be my first SE that's not H1. Based on experience, this blade loves strooping. I have been using 4 micron diamond paste on a home made stroop with thick (3-4mm) leather. I loaded up the stroop with paste (both the top and side of the leather), then drag the b...

Re: Spyderco Seconds Sale Scores
I was very tempted by the mystery box, but I am very picky when it comes to handle color, so I passed. Zome and Pink would have been immediately resold in that example so I feel ok about the pass. it took 6 hours of refreshing after timeout, checking the status repeatedly during meetings, entering C...

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up
Count me in for an ayoob Salt, but not in a bright color. The bright colors of the salts don't jive with me at all. Re the snaggletooth, I have a "1st quality" with one and in use it's almost a feature, not a flaw. For opening things like boxes or zipties it provides a wonderful little hoo...

Re: Advice on my first Spyderco
I got a P3LW for my first spyderco and it's my least favorite in my collection. Soon to be sold or given to a friend. So personally I recommend anything besides the P3. I dont understand the love for this knife. My main beef is the 3.8mm thick blade, which is 3" long, makes for an extremely wed...

Re: Centofante wharncliffe
Count me in for 2.
Really really want to see the Centofante 4 revived! I just scored a C3 in the seconds sale and I'm excited to see how the thin blade slices.
I think it's replacing my PM3lw as my backpacking knife as the pm3 cuts like a wood splitter with its short, 4mm thick blade

Re: Spyderco Online Factory Seconds Sale!
It took from 8am to 130pm PST, refreshing the website on 3 devices constantly after timeout, entered credit card info no less than 8 times. Finally it processed but kicked back that the 15v PM2 was sold out, back to cart, kill the pm2, back to shipping, back to Cc info, stalled there a few more time...
