Re: Knife Center Exclusive Native 5, Cruwear + Smooth G-10
Well, somebody with my name just bought one last night, thanks to the resurgence of this thread... I've had natives in S35VN and M4, but was never satisfied with the steel in either. I've been really liking the CruWear in my PM2, so when I read about this native in CruWear my wallet got mysteriously...

Re: Question for CruCarta PM2 owners
So I could count on it to not slip out of my soggy hands? Yay! A lot of people say that the new scales feel “fuzzy”. Is that the case? I don't remember what the new scales felt like. Not fuzzy any more, though. Not grippy like rubber when it's wet, but I think the grip might improve a bit when damp...

Re: Question for CruCarta PM2 owners
I like it. In my sweaty pockets where K390 doesn't do so well, Cruwear still hasn't even shown a hint of patina or rust in the 9 months or so I've been carrying it. I do cut food with it, but I make sure to stay away from the pivot when cutting and rinsing both. Old habits. The micarta is fairly smo...

Crucarta PM2
Also GB1, but PM2 gets more use. The Cruwear is going on 9 months of daily carry now, and still not a hint of patina or rust.- Mon Dec 04, 2023 11:40 pm

Re: What makes a steel 'aggressive'?
Erich, Bolster has reported an observed difference in how different steels cut, which property he has termed "aggressiveness". True, there is currently no standardized test or measurement of steel "aggressiveness", but that doesn't mean we should immediately discount his observat...

Re: What makes a steel 'aggressive'?
To me, aggression is something that I see when opening boxes. A non-aggressive steel will politely just cut the tape, and stay in the gap between the cardboard flaps. An aggressive steel, however, will wander into the cardboard, and instead of being repulsed back into the tape region, will happily b...

Don't you know? Avocados oxidize and turn all dark and splotchy not long after opening them up. That's just normal.

As always, you surprise me with an excellent thread idea vivi, thanks for making this place liveful man ! I'd choose the Gayle Bradley just because I've been after it for a couple of years and still am in my honey moon phase :'). More seriously, I don't know if every blade has the same thinness beh...

Re: Knife Battle
Never handled the Military, but GB1 is basically perfect, so it wins. perfect grind, perfect ergos for heavy cutting, absolutely solid lockup (like a fixed blade, really). Only thing it might benefit from is a small forward finger stop, but that's debatable. GB1 vs Lil' Temperance 3 (K390 if we're b...

Re: Decision time what to purchase, don’t say by both
While I don´t like deep carry at all the XL looks to have a TOO "high" / "shallow" carry even for my preferences Yup. I agree. With the factory clip, there's about an inch sticking out of your pocket. With a deep-carry clip, everything looks more nicely proportioned. My solution...

Re: Decision time what to purchase, don’t say by both
I have medium hands. definitely the XL. I hate how the regular feels like trying to hold a fish, with my hand slipping off the back. It needs much less of a heel drop. The XL has no such problem.

Steel for Fish
Hi all, I've found (in my use) that for cutting up and prepping fish I catch (mostly bass), a knife with a very sharp tip is required. What are your recommendations for a Spyderco steel that has high initial edge retention, that will not be damaged by cutting through fish skin and tough spines? Let'...

Re: When There's No Way to "Try Before You Buy"
I like it a lot, more than I expected I would after comparing it visually to the Native 5, which I have daily'd for years and am very comfortable with. For the last 8 months I've been carrying and using a crucarta PM2. It's nice, but so many times it feels like it's just too long, and the tip is too...

Hmm, I didn't realize that Spyderco had switched to linerless and a pinned lock bar pivot on the G10 N5. I'm glad I got mine when I did.

Re: Lightweight variant blades in standard handles.
Good name, Native Chive. I tried swapping blades between a BladeHQ M4 Native 5 LW and my well worn S35VN Native 5 G10. It worked, but neither combination had what I considered to be super great lockup. Granted, I am VERY particular about lockup. I like my folders to feel like fixed blades when they ...

Re: Biggest sturdy Spyderco folder?
Not super big, but GB1 is the sturdiest Spyderco I've ever used. More so than the Manix 2 XL. I think that the Szabo was built the same way as the GB1, so I would expect it to be very sturdy as well.

Re: H1 Steel Only :)
Yes the simplicity of the Salt line, especially those older models are a big selling point for me. Been looking at the Atlantic recently. How do you typically use it and how do you like it? Also anyone know if Spyderco will sell you replacement barrel clips? Yeah, you can order replacement clips fr...
