Re: Why is the PM2 more popular when the Manix 2 is objectively better?

I prefer the Manix, but there are a couple places where the PM2 is definitely better: The PM2 is a lot easier to maintain. The open back makes it easier to wash out and it's easy to disassemble for maintenance. The lock on the Manix is hard to wash out and it's very fiddly to reassemble. The lock on...

5) Short blades I get that legal restrictions might impact on some designs and lead to shorter blades than might otherwise be the case. But I don't get why, even on those models where the intention is to pack in as much blade as possible, we still see significant chunks of unfilled space. The RockJ...

is the para 3 more chamfered than the PM2? my para 3 has almost no chamfering. Doesn't look like any more than the PM2 in pictures.

Re: best locking mechanism for deer hunting folder?

IMO, comp locks are the easiest to clean out. You can just pour water through the locking mechanism to get most of the gunk out. The only annoying spot would be if you manage to get anything deep under the lock bar. There's some slack space below the lock bar so you'd need to get a lot in there to j...

Re: Dragonfly warnie for box cutter

I have a k390 dragonfly wharncliffe. It works really well for things like opening boxes and other packaging because of the short blade and the good tip access (due to being a wharncliffe). The short blade is nice for opening boxes since you can just put your thumb/index finger on the spine to limit ...

Re: What you don't like about spyderco knives?

Any lock but Back Lock or Buried Liner Lock (CBBL and Bar Lock are just awkward and get in the way of grip. Compression lock is just waiting for a wrong twist angle to release. Frame lock just plain makes it ugly and uncomfortable on one side. Only one lock did not fail in testing Back Lock, broke ...

Re: What you don't like about spyderco knives?

I almost exclusively carry Spyderco and one of my favorite features is the thumb hole. This hole, however, does tend to result in knives that are wider in the pocket than similar length knives from other manufacturers. I think they're intentionally designed with wide blades a lot of the time. The d...

Re: What you don't like about spyderco knives?

It also seems like there is a lot of convenience in sharpening knives with thin geometry. I could be misunderstanding, but if it is easier, quicker, more forgiving to sharpen, and increases the longevity of an edge in several ways, I think that's a huge advantage and attractive feature of thinner g...

Re: What you don't like about spyderco knives?

I can't think of anything I don't like about knives that is specific to Spyderco, but there are some things I would like to see Spyderco do. The biggest thing for me has already been expressed here and that is thinner geometry on some knives. I think the Performance Delica is already a step toward ...

Re: PM2 deserves a "li'l Native". Who's with me?

IMO, keychain knives need some sort of safety like the autonomy does. Even the close bias of a back lock isn't going to stop something from snagging on the hole and opening it when you pull your keys out. My DIY solution was to 3D print a clip that snaps onto the hole and holds it shut. ladybug-clip...

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up

Is it normal that my C60's lock bar gets pushed in a little when doing a hard cut? I noticed it recently when I was chopping up a box and did a cut while pinching the scales. Doesn't seem like it's enough to unlock itself or anything, but it's got way more play than any of my other seki knives. I b...

Re: What you don't like about spyderco knives?

Something I remembered recently: mirror polished pocket clips. I don't really want a clip that attracts a lot of attention and they look out of place on a lot of knives. For example, the para 3 maxamet has a satin stonewash blade finish but a mirror polished clip.

Re: So what's with 15V anyway?

Ah so nearly 20% carbides yeah CBN will work well with this. How is the corrosion on this? I like Cruwear no matter what I cut, Lemons etc... wash wipe and go no patina no rust. The polish on the 15V manix keeps rust off decently, but there are still some spots on mine after a few months. Larrin's ...

Make it a 2.5” blade and I’m in! https://i.imgur.com/rAP9uL2.jpg https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?t=90605 With a thinner blade and less wasted space at the end of the handle, I'd like that. I don't want the blade to be 0.145" thick if it's only 2.5" long. It'd go well with a wharn...

Re: CPM 15V Sprint sharpening and performance thread

I've tried K390, 15V and maxamet. The main difference between them is the blade finish. The 15V manix has a pretty fine polish, so it resists rust well. There are some spots on the manix after a couple months of use. Mostly from sweat, I'd imagine.

Re: Rockjumper steel options for this year

I decided to buy a rockjumper to try the design out. I definitely want a k390 version now. The handle-forward style really works. I'll probably end up using this knife a lot because wharncliffes are useful, but it'll be hard going back to VG-10 when my main couple of knives are k390 and 15V.

Re: What you don't like about spyderco knives?

Blade thickness is my biggest gripe. If it were up to me, I would reduce the stock thickness of every 3mm blade to 2.5, and every 4mm blade to 3. Yeah, this is a big problem in the knife world. So many knives have blades thick enough to survive the apocalypse, while most people aren't going to abus...

how about a Boyd dent? The extra thin lockbar on your thumb when closing it is the only thing I dislike about the Chap, I feel a curve would relieve that discomfort.
+1 on that. Not a big deal to me, but the dent is definitely more comfortable.

Re: What you don't like about spyderco knives?

These are some things I wish they'd change about their lineup. These are all minor complaints. Really only the first 2 would stop me from buying a knife. Lack of chamfering on the inside of the G10 on knives with captured liners. The edges are sharp and dig into my hands. This is the worst on compre...
