Re: K390 Lil' Temperance3 Lightweight In Stk
Cashed in all the rewards points I had at one of my favorite dealers and finally nabbed one of these. https://i.imgur.com/YyGUpjrl.jpg Like it a lot. It's not that much lighter compared to the G10 version, but I could feel the balance difference since I'm used to the latter. Obviously lighter in the...

Re: Hand sharpening tips and techniques for even bevels?
Yep, no substitute for practice when we're talking about freehand. I'll say that I find the wharncliffe and similar style edges to be a little trickier to freehand, at least for me. This is because you need to keep the entire edge even over the stone, whereas on a more traditional blade like the lea...

Re: MT36P – K294 MICROCLEAN Mule Team Dropping Soon!
Thanks, Guts! I see Seki is still not sharpening to the plunge :grimace. Do you find the edge polishes out, or retains aggression when taking it to the higher grits? I typically stop my progression with the Venev 400 and get incredible aggression from the stone. I find if I sharpen using their OCB ...

Re: MT36P – K294 MICROCLEAN Mule Team Dropping Soon!
I was initially quite excited when I saw this MULE was coming down the pipeline, however, after spending a bit more time with 15V, I was left sort of wondering if a "less stellar" version is worth forking out more coin on; especially aftering enjoying T15 so much. Usage and testing has ha...

Re: MT36P – K294 MICROCLEAN Mule Team Dropping Soon!
Got mine today. Edge bevels pretty wonky (Seki ), but whatever I was gonna sharpen it anyway. Really like 10V, but don't have any in a fixed blade so this K294 mule should be great.

Re: What % of you collection has the factory edge angle?
I'd say about 50% of my collection are still factory angle, but it's basically just my backups/doubles of knives that are stashed away. I enjoy sharpening too much to keep the stuff I use with the factory edge, though I think Spyderco's factory edge is one of the better ones out there among mfg I'll...

I make my own these days. Leather on a 3D printed backing with gunny juice. Also like basswood with gunny juice but it's a little less forgiving if I had to describe it.

I grabbed a Fine stone after the news to complete the set since I already had the Medium and UF. Pretty surprising. Spyderco's ceramics aren't like anything else I've tried.

Re: River's Edge Cutlery Mystery Exclusive - 8/14/23
I have owned a REC avocado Shaman and Manix. I was extremely underwhelmed and they both just looked gimmicky to me. I would really like to see more 10V in almost any knife configuration though. I missed out on the BBB Manix so a 10V Manix would be particularly nice and I have already asked for a 10...

Wow. Glad I was able to grab a Swayback, a CF Sage 5, and a Maxamet Sage 1 this year. A little more sad I couldn't grab a Paysan during the seconds sale. A lot of surprises in there.

Re: New to Spyderco and have a Para 3, just had it open and bite me while in pocket
Don't generally carry a knife IWB if at all. Me neither, but what I generally do tend to do, is ramble on until my point get lost :D It wasn’t my intention to dilute the discussion by broadening the scope to also include IWB, but rather a way to highlight how I think tip down might be intrinsically...

Re: New to Spyderco and have a Para 3, just had it open and bite me while in pocket
I think there’s too many unknowns to be categorical about the safety of carry orientation, but I do prefer- and almost exclusively carry tip down for IWB as there isn’t a pocket seem to push the knife spine against. And always a lock with self closing bias for IWB, something I prefer most of the ti...

Re: New to Spyderco and have a Para 3, just had it open and bite me while in pocket
Sorry that happened to you. Keys+thumb hole opener in the same pocket is a no go for sure if you can avoid it. Did you have it tip up or down carry? I carry tip up right hand side pocket, but with the knife always pushed all the way to the right side of my pocket, so that way the spine of the blade ...

Haven't tried dual grit personally, but I remember the Cedric and Ada youtube tested a Magnacut dual grit sharpened mule and the results were pretty eye opening.

Re: Am I missing out on S110V?
Well if you were wanting a high edge retention stainless, S90V technically has higher edge retention than S110V so you're not really missing anything in that regard. See knife steel nerds' edge retention tests for more info https://knifesteelnerds.com/2020/05/01/testing-the-edge-retention-of-48-knif...

Re: Please educate me on the compression lock
I have to improve my technique then. I’m usually trying to be gentle with the knives, especially new ones, operating without much force. But if it only leads to additional wear of the lock, I’ll be pushing harder and faster! :D Just a sample size of one, but I carried a single PM2 for around 6 year...

Re: St. Nick’s Exclusive red and black Goddard!
I know the Venev stones are popular but if they are in fact truly coarse stones then it doesn't match up to the scratch pattern I see on your edge. I can clearly see the stropping along the edge and I do see some scratches but nowhere near the degree of what I'd expect to be something around 220 gr...
