So far Seki has only done TiCN, and that's definitely not durable. Adding a durable coating to Japanese lines would be nice for sure.
So far the coating on my M4 delica has held up extremely well. I’d love to see it on more blades.

Re: Help choosing gift

For a high school kid that will use it primarily as a pocket knife with some fishing I would recommend the Paramilitary 3. I would go with the SPY-27 version that is stainless or, if it will see a lot of water, the MagnaCut version that is extremely rust proof. IMO for a teenager a 3” blade is a go...

Re: Salt Dreams

Magna-cut salt and pac salt FFG (or pretty much the entire seki salt series in MC)

Magna-cut spyder-chef with a 2.5mm thick blade would be must own for me for sure.

Coated Seki K390 knives?

I’ve been using my mint green M4 coated delica for a while and love the coating on it, it doesn’t flake even with abuse and has is nearly as easy to care for as stainless. It’s really fantastic wish I saw more seki tool steel spydercos with it. Will there ever be plans to release the K390 seki spyde...

The delica-endura-police family are quintessential spydercos for me.

I'd like to see s60v get a redemption run. I've only used Shawn's heat treat with s60v so I've been spoiled in that regard.
That would be interesting.

Re: Survive knives

This is the type of information I was looking for from someone who works with the material. I can’t help but feel like dragging cpm magna-cut is just part of a marketing blitz for their knives in European grades of steel. Funny but all the noise about the steel is coming from the big players that s...

Re: Survive knives

Survive is a train wreck on Instagram. Plenty of claims made due to the steel and not his over pre-order. (And yes his pre-order price and timeline was way off the mark of being profitable or achievable without hiring staff) He doubled down blaming the steel which didn’t go down well. He was even o...

Re: How about a Salt/Magnacut Kapara?

Well, I guess my love for the Kapara is no secret, and I do realize that it is on the wrong production location for this to happen anytime soon. But considering that the Kapara was conceived as a folding food prep knife, wouldn't it just make sense to give it the Salt/Magnacut/FRN treatment? It wou...

Re: Survive knives

I have some older Survive knives in 20cv and 3v, and they've been super solid. Apparently they went downhill when they tried to scale up (unsuccessfully). My general impression from reading through things a while back is that I basically wouldn't trust them. They seem to be in the business of blami...

Survive knives

I work as a process development engineer for manufacturing and have been following the fiasco with Survive! knives, he’s been pretty adamant about blaming a specific steel for all sorts of delays and quality problems. However it would also seem to me that he tried to scale production without doing a...

Re: Charisma – Spyderco Design Production Sample 2024

The Spyderco Charisma was a new design that seemed to want to fly out of my lightbox. This was an impressively thin and lightweight folder. The cutting edge however, is almost as long as the edge found on a Paramilitary 2. The Charisma is thin and light enough to easily carry in a shirt pocket. I d...
