Survive knives
I work as a process development engineer for manufacturing and have been following the fiasco with Survive! knives, he’s been pretty adamant about blaming a specific steel for all sorts of delays and quality problems. However it would also seem to me that he tried to scale production without doing a...

I would wonder why, but I would likely buy one because Rex 121 is the king of steels.

Re: Charisma – Spyderco Design Production Sample 2024
The Spyderco Charisma was a new design that seemed to want to fly out of my lightbox. This was an impressively thin and lightweight folder. The cutting edge however, is almost as long as the edge found on a Paramilitary 2. The Charisma is thin and light enough to easily carry in a shirt pocket. I d...

Re: Sharpening my Spydercos. A simple question...
Hi Jmj, You have reached the threshold of edge type. When Gail and I were testing edges in the development of our Sharpmaker, we learned that a coarse edge cut more aggressively, bit a polished edge stayed sharp longer. Our solution was a polished serrated edge. Buy one of our K04 serrated kitchen ...

Re: Upping the price.
Easy to remedy knife price hikes - simply buy less. Restrict yourself to a couple of knives per year - consider ones that you “really” want instead of consuming every new release that is put in front of you like some kind of a mindless rampant, knife-eating Pac-Man. Quality over quantity brothers. ...

Re: Upping the price.
I’m not really convinced by your argument, increases in the cost of inputs for manufacturing is different from the federal inflation rate. Specific inputs can increase greater than the rate of inflation easily. Increasing costs of Labor, Abrasives, power, steel, tooling, manufacturing services, ect...

Re: Upping the price.
I think price increases in kind of inevetable, especially with the cost inputs going up. This inflation argument has been brought up a few dozen times in this thread, which is why I pieced together a graph of prices vs inflation in this comment . The only products on that graph tracking inflation a...

Re: Upping the price.
I think price increases in kind of inevetable, especially with the cost inputs going up. What spyderco offers that I consider worth a premium, is well considered and refined functional and ergonomic designs for cutting tools in materials that are treated well. If you want a knife in an exotic tool o...

Re: Heat treatment of the Taiwanese blades
Yo what's up. I was wondering...since I only got 1 Spyderco which is made in Taiwan and I haven't ''really'' used it so far, can you tell me who does the heat treating in Taiwan, and are those steels made good, in particular CPM-S30V and CPM-M4 from Taichung? I don't really trust the chinese people...

It will be interesting to see if spyderco has managed to put a better edge on these than the original kitchen knives made out of them. (I own the paring knife and the chef knife)

Re: LC200N for mullet? Recommendation Needed
I like both steels, Magna-Cut keeps a fine edge much better than LC200N in my experience for outdoor tasks, I use it on wood regularly and it holds up. LC200N isn’t a slouch either, (my favorite outdoor knife is the spyderchef for ease of maintenence) and there are far more models available in it as...

Re: Positive improvements in marketing, social media and other things that I’ve seen recently
I’ve enjoyed the MAP holiday sales, they have allowed me to pick up knives that I would normally never buy like the spyderchef, as well as spare / backup knives (Endura K390, stretch 2 K390 next time).

Re: Ok, could it be that LC200N fares better against Magnacut than some might think?
Hey Gernot! I have not experienced Magnacut. Very curious about it and how it ultimately compares to other steels. The below example is why I do not think that toughness alone translates into better edge stability. This is just my experience with LC200N (Pac Salt PE and recently acquired SpydieChef...

The roadie is pretty conservative. Although you may be onto something with whimsical bright colors. Especially now that Spyderco is branching out into new blade coatings and coating colors. Anecdotally my good friend is a High School teacher. Attitudes and laws about knives in schools are harsh in ...
