Re: Your Experiences with Votix Dragonfly Scales?

Thanks for the replies so far. Between the turnaround time, including them still not getting back to me on a message I sent before starting this thread, and the washer question; I pulled the trigger on some Flytanium scales. I hope to get a chance to try them soon but my schedule has been absolutely...

Re: New Discoveries found in 8Cr13MoV testing

Always felt Spyderco's 8Cr13MoV was a tad bit underrated. I don't feel like my opinions have changed about 8Cr13MoV. It grinds easy but it doesn't apex as well as other steels. I did feel the testing put other steels in a better light rather than elevating 8Cr13MoV. 14C28N looks even better now. Go...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

So many cool shots here. I've said it before but I'll say it again, it's one of the few times I miss having a "like" button.

Anyway, just enjoying a springtime snowstorm with this RockJumper in my pocket.

Your Experiences with Votix Dragonfly Scales?

Hi! With the Dragonfly being an EDC MVP, whether as a primary or secondary carry, I finally decided to get the S30V model. I'm just not sure that I'm man enough for the pink scales. So I've been looking at other options (besides just dyeing them). Flytanium makes some cool titanium scales. A big dea...

Re: Upping the price.

Hi Ugaarguy, Ya know, I thought about this thread quite a bit over the past week or so. I can understand being concerned over raising prices. I too am concerned. But it's always possible to make anything cheaper. You start with the top and then you suck out quality and/or services until you've got ...

Re: Upping the price.

Hi Chronovore, We've not had a chance to test 14C. We're currently testing 19C. We generally don't do much with steels under .8 carbon for blades. sal Thanks for the quick reply. Coming at it from a carbon perspective, I can see why you passed over 14C28N. It might not be a champion on edge retenti...

Did Sal actually name Sanrenmu as a maker? I didn't know specifics like that were mentioned, even if some seem to be open secrets.

Re: Upping the price.

Hey Sal, You had previously revealed that Spyderco put time, effort, and resources into training Sanrenmu to make products for you. I've looked at products they make, including for other companies such as Boker, Ruike, and Real Steel. They do some decently made knives in 14C28N at extremely competit...

Re: Upping the price.

Again, no offense, but to me you guys sound a bit as if it was a given that actually most customers want deep carry clips... I have a feeling (also just that, a feeling of course!) though that there is rather a "loud" minority who advocates for the "trendy" deep carry and a more...

Re: enuff 2!!!

Very good, chronovore. You keep looking. :cowboy If you do end up getting one, and want a different sheath for it. I would point you to Eric, at https://rkcustomkydex.shop/products/spyderco-enuff-2-kydex-sheath?_pos=1&_sid=bfa00e23d&_ss=r&variant=42450723602588 He is in Roanoke, VA, and...

Re: Upping the price.

On steel, esp 8Cr13MoV vs 14C28N vs Nitro-V - per Larrin's charts out of 10, these are all at least 6 for toughness, 7 for corrosion resistance, and only 3 for CATRA wear resistance. BD1N gets to 3.5 on wear resistance but also lower toughness. If you get a model with Nitro-V instead of 8Cr, it's s...

Re: enuff 2!!!

Thank you, chronovore. It really does make for an easy carry, and quick access. I always carry it in the full/deeper side pocket. Then when I go to use the knife, I thumb-off the sheath into the shorter outer pocket you see in the pictures. Then, when I'm done cutting, I can easily see the sheath i...

Re: Upping the price.

I completely respect that some people like deep carry and that there are of course reasons for doing so! Still: - I don't think it is "spyderco-ish" to follow a trend. Plus a vast majority of their knives were just designed, I guess also ergo-wise, to have the imo very sensible "norm...

Re: enuff 2!!!

Shortly after this knife came out, and mine arrived. I dyed the scales and shared some pictures of it in this thread. I also mentioned then, that of course I loved this knife (in K390:), but that I was going to soon make, and put a custom sheath on it. To make it quite a bit shorter in overall carr...

Re: Upping the price.

It's worth keeping in mind that China is a big place. The manufacturer(s) Spyderco uses may not be as capable as some of the other brands that are succeeding in the marketplace. And obviously Spyderco has a huge reputation to keep up, I'm sure they don't want heat treatment issues with any of their...

Re: Upping the price.

With all due respect: Imo the regular Spyderco clips (including the Polestars) are definitely among the very best on the market. This is also true for their placement on the knife, except perhaps a few outliers like the G10 Para 3 or the Manix XL. And they look great while to me (subjevtive of cour...

Re: Upping the price.

I've also seen knives I'm pretty sure Spyderco made in BD1N listed as BD1 in some retailers' websites. They really need to shift to a steel that is recognizably an ok steel to most users/reviewers. Sadly, I've also seen this confusion. That's another reason I suggested getting out in front of it. I...
