Re: Looking for input on next Spyderco.

The CruCarta Paramilitary 2 is always a solid choice. I don't carry knives larger than that much so don't have much to say about other larger options.

Re: "My dream spyderco would be"...

Re-issue of the Phil Wilson designed Sprig in the same S90V steel, but pushed up to the hardness that Phil would prefer, and ground very thin behind the edge. I rather liked the original handle and sheath, to be honest, so no need to make any more changes to it. Otherwise, my CPM 15V PM2 has turned ...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Got out my much neglected Manix 2 LW in S110V. Was able to get a Salt Manix ordered, so figured I'd better re-familiarize myself with the lightweight version of the Manix.

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Paramilitary 2 in CPM 15V once again. Got out for a short hike this afternoon (2.9 miles). Looks like we could have snow/rain for the next few days, so I'll probably carry something stainless if I'm out and about in that kind of stuff. As it was, a band of light rain showers passed through during th...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Needed to get oustide for a while today, but got out late so only 2.8 miles, but it was a nice evening for a walk by the river. Bit chilly but the wind died down as the sun set making it pretty pleasant. https://photos.smugmug.com/A-Change-of-Seasons/Fall-2023/i-Nnw9R7S/0/14228c98/L/20231217_162148-...

Re: What are your top 5 Spydercos?

Hmm... Interesting question. Current list of favorite current production knives goes as follows:

1. Paramilitary 2
2. Manix 2
3. Stretch 2
4. Native 5
5. UKPK

Re: Advice re: Manix 2 LW

Honestly I'd personally spend the extra money to get it from somewhere other than Amazon... worth it to know for sure what you're getting. The BD1 Manix does predate the BD1N, as in the latter case the steel's composition was modified slightly and is the current production version. If the listing ho...

Re: What knife do you actually carry and use the most?

Just curious, how do you sharpen your knives ? Free hand or do you use a sharpening system? All freehand. Most of the steels I use regularly have notable amounts of vanadium so mainly use diamond stones. The coarser grits for reprofiling are currently Atoma plates, finishing stones (usually go to 1...

Re: What "Other" is in your pocket???

Went in a bit of a different direction today, this small Inkosi was begging for a little attention. It's not my favorite(a bit overly short and stout compared to a Sebenza) but it's a very fun little knife. Not pictured but also in pocket is my favorite small Sebenza with black micarta inlays and Ma...

Re: CPM-S90V knife sharpening

Diamond abrasives will work best with S90V. As mentioned, perhaps a Sharpmaker with diamond stones would work well for you, otherwise bench stones are best if your free hand sharpening skills are good. The sharpie trick is worth trying, and I recommend getting a 10x loupe to visually check what is g...

Re: New Steel Testing Method! My wife and the cupboard.

The only things I've put K390 against that really did mich damage to it were rocks and concrete. That leads me to believe that Amazon packaging may now be based on one or both of those substances, based on JSumm's current testing work. That's definitely science right there.

Re: What knife do you actually carry and use the most?

For this year, these two. 15V PM2 and MagnaCut Small Sebenza. The Sebenza in general probably gets the overall most used nod for the past few years, though previously I was using a couple S45VN ones. With apologies to Spyderco, I still think the small Sebenza is the ultimate form of the every day ca...
