How did you test for dullness? Numb fingers maybe?

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.
For any SE newbies who are wanting to dip their toes in SE waters, I heartily recommend the Byrd serrated Harrier 2 Wharnie. A real performer and best bang for the buck.

Re: Catcherman LC200N Sprint Run
super pumped. day 1 purchase for me. been asking for a sprint for years. didnt want to pay $200-250 for an aus8 user off ebay. So glad Spyderco is bringing this back. I've never been too big on fishing but I'll legit buy myself a new rod and tacklebox once I get my catcherman. Your cooking and fish...

Re: Experiences with hawkbills?
I've seen those Byrd hawkbills as low as $22 during this great Wharncliffe & SE sell-off that we are the beneficiaries of. This knife is so outstanding, it makes considering a serrated salt hawkbill version very difficult. Corrosion or rust? Who cares.....I'll just buy more at that price. IMHO,...

Re: Experiences with hawkbills?
Hawkbills are great for draw cuts where surface contact with something like a cutting board is not necessary, but I find it less versatile than a wharnie. The one application where it does absolutely shine for me is for outliner cuts when filleting fish. Simply blunt the tip of the hawkbill to keep ...

Re: Steel for Fish
Hi all, I've found (in my use) that for cutting up and prepping fish I catch (mostly bass), a knife with a very sharp tip is required. What are your recommendations for a Spyderco steel that has high initial edge retention, that will not be damaged by cutting through fish skin and tough spines? Let...

Re: Steel for Fish
If you're talking about filet knives, IMHO technique is at least as important as steel when it comes to preserving the life expectancy or your edge. Fish flesh is not the problem. Coarse scales and heavy rib bones do most of the damage. Whenever possible avoid cutting large scales from the outside i...

Re: Does anyone know why Byrd doesn't offer D2 steel?
The window for proper D2 heat treat is a very narrow window of about 50 degrees. Probably difficult for mass production to maintain such tolerances. Definitely not up to Dozier D2 heat treat standards.

Re: I don't want to spam this page but i need your help!
You're a fisherman and if you're not a strictly catch & release kinda guy, you need both a serrated and PE version. Culinary care requires bleeding many fish species and serrated is the go to for slittin' gills. My thinking is one color for serrated and the other for PE. I already have a serrate...

Re: Extra Large Backlock Salt
Golden back locks are pretty bullet proof; however, when it comes to a larger or 4" Salt, I would welcome a design something along the lines of the SpydieChef regardless of type of action.
