Re: Tanto PM2 Support Thread

Thanks to hambone56rx for the news. The Instagram post mentioning the Tanto PM2 in its comments section is at https://www.instagram.com/p/ByaZ1ZTH5ia . If you expand the comments, you can see a comment from BladeHQ in response to "randall.vndk Still no PM2 tanto though" that says "bla...

Re: Tanto PM2 Support Thread

I agree that VG-10 will probably only be used if the PM2 Tanto is made in Japan. I recall reading that VG-10 cannot be used by any manufacturer outside of Japan. If the PM2 Tanto remains part of the US-made Spyderco lineup, then I highly doubt it would use VG-10. There is a precedent for Japanese ve...

Re: Tanto PM2 Support Thread

My guess is that the spine and tip of the PM2 tanto would be in the same position as the standard PM2 blade, so the point of a PM2 tanto blade would probably be as easy to access as a regular PM2 blade. The main difference would probably be the belly (or lack thereof) of the PM2 tanto blade. The PM2...

Re: Tanto PM2 Support Thread

Here is an alternate screenshot from Blade HQ's "NEW Spyderco Knives | SHOT Show 2019" YouTube video (_9jYzYE2JOU) that has a lighting angle that highlights the hollow grind portion of the blade. I am in favor of a combo edge version of the PM2 tanto. The straight plain edge of a tanto is ...

Re: Tanto PM2 Support Thread

This screenshot below from Blade HQ's "NEW Spyderco Knives | SHOT Show 2019" YouTube video (_9jYzYE2JOU) highlights the pillar construction of the PM2 tanto prototype. Given that the tanto blade on this prototype was hand-ground, it is probably a safe assumption that the rest of the PM2 ta...

Re: Tanto PM2 Support Thread

This screenshot below from Blade HQ's "NEW Spyderco Knives | SHOT Show 2019" YouTube video (_9jYzYE2JOU) shows that there is a hollow grind, as in most American tanto blades, on most of the cutting surface of the edge, with a convex or flat ground tip. For this reason, this may be the firs...

Re: Tanto PM2 Support Thread

Below is a second attempt to attach a crude mock-up that superimposes the tanto PM2 blade from a screenshot from Blade HQ's "NEW Spyderco Knives | SHOT Show 2019" YouTube video (_9jYzYE2JOU) onto the disassembled PM2 from Nick Shabazz's "How to disassemble and maintain a Spyderco Para...

Re: Tanto PM2 Support Thread

Thanks SpyderEdgeForever. When I registered for this forum, I was surprised that the username "ComboEdge" was not taken yet in a nearly 2-decade-old forum. Yes, I would be very interested in a FRN-handled PM2 with a tanto blade. The upcoming 2019 release of a FRN-handled Para 3 indicates t...

Re: Tanto PM2 Support Thread

The two screenshots below from Blade HQ's "NEW Spyderco Knives | SHOT Show 2019" YouTube video (_9jYzYE2JOU) show that there is a slight swedge on the PM2 tanto prototype, and the spine apparently does not taper to a fine enough point to be considered a false edge or weehawk tanto. It look...

Re: Tanto PM2 Support Thread

The two images below are my crude attempts to superimpose the tanto PM2 blade from a screenshot from Blade HQ's "NEW Spyderco Knives | SHOT Show 2019" YouTube video (_9jYzYE2JOU) onto the disassembled PM2 from Nick Shabazz's video. It is a safe assumption that the round hole and the pivot ...

Re: Tanto PM2 Support Thread

The screenshot below from Nick Shabazz's "How to disassemble and maintain a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 (PM2)" YouTube video (sta3r7Wyh20) shows that when the disassembled PM2 is closed completely (with a standard blade), a large portion of the skeletonized liners are visible. It is almost eno...

Re: Tanto PM2 Support Thread

Here is a mock-up of what a Paramilitary 2 Tanto with a Combo Edge would look like (I used a product image of a partially serrated Native 2 for the serrations). Ideally, the serrations would take up less than half of the long portion of the edge, but my image editing abilities were not up to par. If...

Re: Tanto PM2 Support Thread

If we look at screenshots from Blade HQ's "NEW Spyderco Knives | SHOT Show 2019" YouTube video (_9jYzYE2JOU) and Nick Shabazz's "How to disassemble and maintain a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 (PM2)" YouTube video (sta3r7Wyh20), it seems that the tanto blade shape may be better at util...
