Thanks.
I'd been on the fence for a while, but when I saw it offered up at about what I'd pay from an online vendor...I couldn't resist.

Re: Gayle Bradley 2
The 1 must be great...but in truth, the 2 with the micarta scales is very comfortable in my hands...and I don't find it difficult to close. Maybe I'm just lucky or have callouses in the right places.

I was fortunate enough, some months back, to find one in new condition at a great price that had already been upgraded.
Love it.

Re: We don't actually need to Magnacut *all* the knives
I feel like MagnaCut will be the truly stainless complement to CruWear, for those wanting a "best compromise" steel that favors corrosion resistance over sharpening response. From what I'm hearing, the reports are very favorable on the sharpening response, as well as the ease of putting a...

Re: We don't actually need to Magnacut *all* the knives
Well I’m happy that I bought two MagnaCut bladed knives in the past couple of weeks. So, the better they perform the happier I am.

M390 does have better edge retention according to Larrin's chart:

Re: We don't actually need to Magnacut *all* the knives
I can't find anything not to like about a steel that has attributes similar to CPM Cru-Wear with added corrosion resistance. As my buddy, knife maker Jerry Halfrich, always tells me about the steel he chooses in making a knife...it's about achieving balance. MagnaCut has it in spades. Just my opinio...

Now, apparently.
Just happened to be re-reading this thread and thought how appropriate that Larrin's "MagnaCut" seems to have provided the answer to that question.

Re: Benchstones: Necessity for dressing / roughening the surface?
An option made by a German company and perhaps available in your area are the rubberized Sandflex Sanding Blocks. They have many household uses and can be used on the ceramic hones if you need to lightly abrade the surface. I've had them around the home and shop for years, though I generally use a r...

Re: Metal used that doesn’t need diamond to sharpen
As a general rule, 4% and higher vanadium carbide content is a good go by to use when diamond will be beneficial...though I've sharpened (not reprofiled) Maxamet and K390 on Spyderco bench stones and Sharpmaker.

Re: subway bowie!
That is really awesome!! What a cool experience and such a neat little blade to always remember it by, that was probably 15 years before I even knew the name Fred Perrin. Although I would've been 13 in 1999. Thanks for sharing! Thank you, @Airlsee and you are very welcome. It was a great experience...

Re: subway bowie!
Here is the original Subway Bowie...made for me by Fred Perrin while my wife and I visited him in Paris in 1999.
I rechristened it "Le Metro" in honor of the Parisian subway system.
