Any Pegasus Fans Out There?

I must admit that I am a very proud owner of a Pegasus. I think it was one of the first {if not the first} of the teeny blade spydies , besides the Ladybug. This is an awesome little knife. Very solid. Mine is PE. I'm thinking very seriously of getting a Cricket FRN to go with my ever growing collection. Should I get PE or SE?

FYI, the Pegasus and the Navigator were designed at the same time. The Pegasus was designed to meet the need for an "under 2" blade" for airline travel (before 9/11). It is a little smaller in blade length than the Navigator to meet that need. We didn't make very many of them, as I remember only about 1200. It is a nice piece.

YES!! Big fan here!! I really like my Pegasus. One is engraved, it is my church knife. The other is an extra. Both are PE. I try to buy them when I find them. I still don't understand how everyone liked the Navigator, but the Pegasus was dropped. The Navigator just looks funny to me, whereas the Pegasus looks good open or closed. I always said the Pegasus was an improved Copilot. 2 down and 1198 more to go.

Though I don't own one I find it a very nice and well designed knife. The Navigator is quite cool, but I'm not into aluminum (the CF version is great though).
Now I'd like a CF Pegassus with a reversed S blade style (a la Meerkat). The Meerkat is cool but I'd preffer a slim, lightweight knife featuring a front lock rather than the phantom lock.
Just my .2c. oppinion.

I too have a Pegasus (SS,PE). I prefer the Nav (have 3-- aluminum solid from SFO, aluminum skeletal and G-10, my EDC). I just think the Nav has way better "hand-feel, despite the better looks of the Pegasus.

By the way, I've never seen a CF version of the Navigator. Are they still available?

Maybe it is just my hands. The Navigator feels funky to me with that little nub of handle that sticks down. Why have it?? It is in the way, and it looks funny. But I guess alot more people like the Navigator. It stayed and the Pegasus went.

Just 3 of us?? Well I guess that's not even enough for a fan club.
Somebody else has to like the Pegasus!! C'mon.

Hi Dialex,

(Like your work, by the way!)
I don't have a scanner, but there are a lot of Navigators with skeletal slots on ebay right now (pretty good prices too). The harder one to find these days is the solid almite model.

Swede, I saw some of those Alumite Navigators on Ebay, but Smkw has them on sale for $29.99! I'm in love with mine! It came with VG-10 steel, not the Gin-1 the guy on the phone said! I had a Delica and a Military in 440v, but I like this Spyderco better than either one of those!

For me, it just has the best "hand-feel" of any knife, Spydie or not!

Oh, by skeletal handles you mean those vents into the scales! I was thinking something really skeletal, somehow closer to the S.P.O.T.

Since this Pegasus thread turned into a Navigator thread , I thought I would mention that I saw a few slotted handle Nav's on Ebay.
I still say get a Pegasus instead.

I wanted a Navigator, but couldn't find one. So...I bought one of those nifty-looking slotted Almite Navigators off eBay and sent it off to have the blade shortened by 1/8". I think that will give me the best of both worlds. I love the looks and ergonomics of the Navigator, but I want a 2"-or-less blade.

I guess I'll never know everthing about the history of the Spyderco knives.
Love to find new old information on them.

i dont own the pegasus but do have both pe and se navi 2. love them. i scratched up the ss one day after trying to get the plastic cover off and ever since then i been carrying a se version. i actually think it fits in the hand well. no bump or probs and i even have big hands. i think the navi 2 is a great model.

whats the difference between the first ss navi and the "navi 2?"

IMO, the main "negative" for the Pegasus, compared to the Navigator, was the lower side of the butt end. Navigator has a concave curve back there that aids your grip. Pegasus has a convex one that your finger slides off of easily. It makes the handle look more esthetically pleasing, by making it symmetrical, but doesn't work as well.
