The Spyderco Rookie, or one of the greatest knives I almost never knew about

I've been in a slim knives mood lately. Dug through my collection and rediscovered this little guy.

The Rookie is a downsized Police, and in G10 it is brilliantly thin.

To me, it's a slimmer, sleeker, pointier Delica, no less hard-working but a better EDC for those of us with desk jobs. Despite its smaller stature its edge exceeds the Delica in length!

I discovered this one a few years back when I visited the Factory Outlet. I could have passed it by easily since it looked close to a Delica but the gentleman helping us pointed it out and I knew it was something special after handling it.

It's too bad this isn't a regular production model. It's certainly one that I cherish from my collection. I'd welcome a sprint run of this one, for sure.

Always was a brilliant example of blade to handle ratio goodness.

Have always been interested in this one, but the Delica fits my hand so well I just sniffed out a G10 version of that instead. It appears that the hump in the handle would be right were I wanted to put my second finger, which is a problem that some have with the Delica.

I agree that the Rookie is under-appreciated. It has a pretty tough job trying to claim a top spot among so many other similar-sized options out there.

Count me as a fan of the Rookie. I agree with Evil D's statemtn about blade/handle ratio. I also really like the overall lines of the design, especially compared to the Delica.

Love the Rookie . The slim profile and crazy point make it a true gem.

The Rookie is a very nice design to be sure. I would love to see a Sprint run featuring a FFG blade (in any steel) with a dark green or burgundy Micarta handle and wire pocket clip.

Give the Rookie a Harpy handle and you have got a WINNER.

I really don't understand why that handle shape isn't used on the Delica/Endura/Police. I guess it has to do with heritage, but it's sooo much better.

I found a bnib rookie sprint for sale at my local b+m and I didn't scoop it up. They wanted a lot but it still hurts. They also had a carbon fiber superhawk. Oh the pain of it all.

Argh. I feel your pain, LC. I once passed up on a NIB Barong for $98. Still kick myself over that one.

The Rookie often gets pocket time. I would pick up a second one, if Spyderco had a sprint run.

I always wanted a Rookie when they first came out years ago, got one of the sprints and frankly it was one of those knives that you always wanted and maybe you had too high of expectations. For me it was just a touch too small. This was in the day before the 50/50 choil that make smaller knives work better. Regardless it is still a neat knife is you like the size.
