    PM2 Dressed to impress

    Hi guys,

I was looking for a while to re-dress my PM2 with new scales. Last weekend I found on ebay a nice micarta-set and won in a violent-bidding-contest.
Today they arrived, I don't know who made them but they are fine and very precisely finished. Dressed to impress, a little knife-porn on monday...

    Enjoy & cheers,
    Tomas

    Very nice, Toomz.

Can anyone point me to Sal's reasons for not putting micarta scales on his knives?

They look great Tomas. I am really surprised you didn't do them yourself from some beautiful, exotic wood.

Beautiful, Tomas! I really like the burlap micarta. And indeed, they do look a lot like the work of Lucas at Cuscadi.

It seems that we have knives that are brothers or cousins - my 20CP Para2 is wearing Cuscadi scales in burgundy linen micarta!

    Cheers!

He has, you just weren't around.

Here are some knives that came in Micarta:

    • Wayne Goddard Jr
    • Baby Wayne Goddard
    • Calypso Jr
    • Full size Calypso
    • Viele
    • Viele II
    • Schempp Kris
    • Schempp Persian
    • Schempp Persian Jr.
    • Jess Horn
    • Dyad
    • JD Smith
    • Shabaria

I'm sure there are more, that is all I could come up with.

So nice! I think wrdwrght means gorgeous, manly, rugged linen or canvas micarta.

Seems my understanding is a bit flawed...

Must have dreamt a conversation here on the forum about Sal's dislike of micarta.

There are a few threads over the past several years that discuss the pros and cons of Micarta. It is a pretty stable material, however, given the right environmental conditions, it can warp slightly. This was a problem on a small number of knives affecting primarily some of the early linerless pinned models like the Goddard. Personally, I have an original Goddard Jr. which has warped ever-so-slightly and is now really difficult to open. Of my 20+ micarta handled Spydies, this is the only one I've ever had problems with. Because of the pinned construction, even the SFO couldn't fix the problem on my Goddard.

Because of this issue, I think Sal and Eric moved away from Micarta as a primary handle material.

There's nothing like the warm organic feeling of good Micarta, though. It is my favorite handle material, hands down...

Thanks for saving my self-respect, Ted. I knew these was some issue. I have micarta on fixed-blades from Blind Horse Knives and ESEE Knives. Comfortable material.
