I've watched the videos and I can't get the middle finger to work. I have no problem flicking out the blade using the tip of my thumb, something like shooting marbles I suppose. It feels more natural to me that way and allows me to maintain a better grip on the knife at the same time.

It took me a while to figure out how to middle finger flick a Spyderco (or any pocket knife) open, but in the end I got it down!

Thanks for posting that vid. I got it down quick with my Para 2 after watching.

Not so lucky with my Manix 2 though. Thumb flip works best for me on that one.

I think I can pretty much do any opening method there is but I still prefer the controlled opening with my thumb. Looks less flashy to me too. I just hate flashy when it's about knives and guns.

I would worry about wearing out the lock. It will most likely outlive you and I, asing as there is no batoning or chopping involved

With the Sage in your right hand, hold it straight up and flick your middle finger towards "10-11 o clock" position. Think of it as the blade opening while flicking your finger out, rather than trying to flick the blade open with your finger if that makes sense. For me it works the easiest with the Tenacious.

Funny enough, opening the PM2 with my thumb is probably my least favorite way of opening it due to the chance of the compression lock pinching my hand. I far prefer doing the middle finger flick or depressing the lock mechanism and giving a small flick of my wrist to open it. If I am around any non-knife people though, I just use my thumb or two hands to open it so it's less intimidating. That being said, the PM2 isn't my first choice to bring if I know I'm going to be around NKP.

I usually use my thumb. After watching that video I still can't middle finger flick it, maybe my hands aren't right for it I have no idea. I can however use my index finger to do it.

When I do flick I always use my middle finger. Always have. Maybe cause I'm a lefty of something, but I've always found that thumb flicking is really awkward and just doesn't get the blade out there. But the MFF always works.
