Time to update the Sheepsfoot Ladybug?

I'd love to see a new Sheepsfoot Ladybug. Or perhaps a Sheepsfoot Manbug. I know there's been some talk in the past.

Don't hold your breath. Sal lost money on the first one.

I think it would have to be plain edge for it to sell. That would get me on board in a hurry.

A small PE FFG sheepsfoot would make an excellent whittling knife. I would for sure be in for a few of these. Great guy gifts.

In my opinion, a good whittling knife needs a handle large enough to get at least a solid three finger grip on, and four is better. The Ladybug and Manbug do not qualify for me. YMMV.

They're too small for a whittling knife I'm afraid

If either one of them (Man/Ladybug) come out in a wharnie version, I swear I will buy 3 of them. I've been wanting one ever since discovering the Ladybug. Truth be told though, the edge is already pretty straight as it is, so I'm not sure it would make THAT much difference in use apart from maybe a thicker tip, but I haven't had any issues with the tip of my Ladybug being too fragile. For me it's as much aesthetic as it is purposeful.

There's two kinds of whittling: serious carving where you'd want a larger handle, and fun, idling around whittling where it doesn't matter. I had a fine whittling session with a Byrd Finch one day. A FFG Ladybug sheepsfoot would be awesome. Great utility shape, too.
    - best wishes, Jazz.

I'd buy one, but a Wharny would be of more appeal.

While it may not be a complete list of the variations (despite our best efforts), this is a good start to answering your question: http://www.spydiewiki.com/index.php?title=L_Ladybug

Even for idle "pick up a stick and make some shavings" whittling I prefer a three finger grip minimum. The Ladybug gives me two and a third.

Have you got a wee fob on the end? Makes a world of difference in both grip and opening the little guys for me.
