    Modded Native V

I bought a Native V a few months back intending to re-scale it with some wood. I tried several different woods, including stabilized redwood and stabilized maple burl - but none of them worked out. They were either too chippy or not strong enough at the desired thinness. I finally settled on an old piece of "True Mulga" from Mark at Its A Burl. The Mulga is a type of Australian desert Acacia, and is resinous, hard and very dense. I used the wood unstabilized and did not put any finishing coat on it - save for a polish with Renaissance Wax.

Ted that looks as beautiful and professionally done as any I have seen. Can you tell a big difference in hand with the extra rounded corners?

I was wondering if someone was going to spot that.

I didn't want to ruin the flow of the wood, especially when the smooth wood makes it a pleasure to slip into the pocket.
That and the stock screws weren't long enough to seat into the liners - and I was too lazy to scout up longer screws.

And to answer your question, Xceptnl, the scales seem to "fill the hand" a bit more than the stock G10 - while being a little lighter in weight. This is going to be a user, not a shelf-queen, so I'll get a better idea about long-term comfort after I carry it for a few days.

    Thanks for the compliments, guys!

Although I've seen grains that I like more, that has to be one of the cleanest wood scale jobs I've seen. Very nicely done sir.

Excellent work as always. Usually, close-up shots reveal the flaws that aren't so apparent in normal viewing, but this looks fantastic even up close! Great job on the finish detail!
