I'll raise your C81GGY20CP2 with a C41PBKS (I think? I don't have the box again, but it's a 440V FS C41PBK from one of the later batches as it has a Boye Dent)

Time think I, for a controversy it is. So to the dark side we go.

Two controversies actually; First being that, while the Native match is the same model and generation; it has a different steal. We will see what the call is on that?

Then there is the dreaded Native Blank; I think that while it was never sold by Spyderco, it is still part of the Spyderco story.

But that is only what I think.

    So let it begin

Later Edit: Link to a Forum topic from 2002 about the Native blank.

    http://www.spyderco.com/forums/showt...de-by-Spyderco

And what Sal had to say on this knife at the time:

Here is the official word from Sal:

Hi. I've heard your requests for the "story" behind the BRK Natives. Apologies on my end for being slow. Lots going on at this time. I'm impressed that you would be interested, thanx.

When the Native was first designed, oit was scheduled to be made by Camillus in New York as a subcontractor. The plan was for 440A. The Native was to be a less expensive offering than the Delica at the same size.

Camillus made a large number of blades out of 440A. They were very nicely made blades. For a variety of reasons, Camillus could not produce for us at the time, so we brought the mold (that Camillus made) into Golden and produced the GIN-1 version for years. Then we changed the blade steel to CPM-440V, the price jumped, and will probably stay with the exotic steels in the near future.

Blue Ridge Knives, a long time and very good distributor for Spyderco knives put together a plan to use the perfectly good
Camillus made blades, Camillus would make the locks and springs, Spyderco would provide the Native handles and Camillus would assemble them in New York. This made it possible to make the less expensive offering. All in all, it's a nicely made USA made piece, and as mentioned, for the price, its hard to beat.

Blue Ridge Knives had the plan and made it possible. So BRK has exclusive rights to the distribution of the model.

    Hope that helps.

We'll still be making the Native in Golden from CPM steels. There is also a Seki-City variation variation coming out later this year.

I say we should allow yours. I myself have raised a knife identical in all but steel so that's a go, and I have also raised non-Spyderco knives (Solo Brand) and at least yours have a hole and say Spyderco on them.

Besides, this game has gotten far too slow, so any raises we can get I think we should allow. Or barring that, Reject you shoulda just posted the knife upside down so we can't tell what steel it has and just say it's 440V

Controversy is good ... And here I am

What you say is true. But and this is a great BUT, personally I don't like when a knife is saying "made in Golden" when it is not made in Golden facility. This "brk" is and will not be part of my collection and I wish it would not be part of our list here.

Ahhh contraversie, we haven't had much but this is a nice one, thx Reject

Sorry I wasn't aware of the BRK story, I just red the thread from back in 2002.

I agree with Peter that this knife is an odd one... on the other hand the design is by Spyderco and the handle mold is the same as all the other Native 1, blade made by Camillus and the knife was assembled by Camillus. Did I get this correct?

I do follow Invective reasoning, IMHO this knife is not a lot different from the Solo knives. Which we did add to the list. Also the knife is mentioned in the SpydieWiki and is part of the Spyderco history.
Thats why I would add it to the list but not under the C41 SKU but a seperate entry like the Solo and Pirka. I suggest to use BRK as SKU and put it on the bottom of the list, the entry I propose: BRK - Native 1 BRK - Post 1492 - Reject

New Arrivals: Chap3, Domino, Sage 3

Oeps I took to long to write my essay

Edit: I update the list with the Pink Native and upped the counter. I also added the BRK in small on the bottom but didn't update the counter with this knife. Just to keep track, anyone opposed to this proposed solution? I can always remove it if someone dislikes this!

Guess I mentioned before on several occasions that Spydiewiki is not the bible and that's the reason why it is listed as origin Native (wrong listed, if you ask me). IMO the BRK never had a own Spyderco SKU and that is main reason not to be considered as C41 Native. It looks like a Native, maybe it even smells like a Native, but it's place should be separated in our list in wording as you described, as "bastard" in generation portfolio.

I'll try to clear that matter within spydiewiki-group.
