SpydeChef - concept kitchen framelock folder by MarcinS

I am reposting this here after many searches to find an older thread with this content or discussions. This was posted last night by a member on USN.

All I can say is WOW! I am excited about this becoming a possible production or sprint!

I'm sure those members that have been to the shows may have seen this one in person, but I had to share with all.

I would buy that in a heartbeat.

I know some folks had an issue with the Techno clip being replaced with a wire version and though I like the wire clip very much, I think changing this one to anything else would really take away from the overall package.

Using the Eggplant as a reference I'm guessing it's around the same size as a Rock Lobster.

It does share some very similar lines with that Jens design. I hope the stock is 2mm - 2.5mm

I agree. It does share a lot of the design cues from Jens and also from the Southard. This picture doesn't look like it has extremely thin stock, though. Looking at it, I would guess at least 3.0-3.5mm - and I would concur that it needs to be much much thinner to be really useful in the kitchen. I like it a lot though...

I always was a little confused about concept of folding kitchen knife. I cannot imagine any folder to beat even starting level Gyuto on the kitchen. Looking at this proto, I think that, if this knife will be produced, the street price should be $200++. Somebody in the need of kitchen cutlery will be able to buy 8" Hattori for much less.

It's a nice looking knife. Interesting how the positive angle will protect your hand, while in other cases negative angle will.

The lack of a dropped blade is going to seriously compromise performance on a cutting board. See the A. G. Russell Honcho for example.

I always wanted one of those Honchos from A. G. Russell.

Yup, that's what I thought as well. Ditched my RL after I realized I needed a much pointier tip for the kitchen. If they produced this, I would love to see it in CTS B75P or XHP. I would probably take the tip down and make it pointier a la the Yojimbo. That would make it much better IMO.

I don't mean to de-rail but why are Anso's and MarcinS' colab logos so similar?

Looks pretty cool...I'd take one as is. NO WIRE CLIP. Ti and wire clips are a really horrible horrible pair IMO.

Too small to chop with anyway imho. Looks to be a great slicer and might be a nice EDC knife.

After gifting friends Spyderco kitchen knives I find I rarely use my folders for extended kitchen use

I just don't get a folding kitchen knife. A folding knife that you can use for kitchen prep in a pinch, sure. But why would you make a kitchen knife harder to clean? Ane why would you want to carry one around with you?

This is the guy that designed the Techno. I really hope this thing comes to life. I wouldn't use it for kitchen stuff but it seems like it'd do fine with light edc use.
