My Marantz 2235 receiver died today

The amplifier section rolled craps. I think I bought this in 1976 and at has stood strong as many others came and went. Gave it to my sister and got it back when she moved twenty years ago. It was in my wife's art studio and I swapped it for a JVC receiver I bought at Goodwill for $12. So she's happy, but I'm contemplating throwing this away and the memories are flooding through my mind.

    Hey Sequimite,
    I'm sorry for your loss.
I'm still using the J.C. Penny's MCS receiver that my parents bought me for Christmas when I was eleven years old in 1976.
I've had a couple other receivers through the years, but always came back to the warm sound of the MCS.
I remember picking it out of the Christmas catalog.
It was a full system; direct drive turntable, cassette deck, receiver, and speakers.
Everything but the receiver gave out on me and was replaced with newer gear, but it will be a sad day when it gives up the ghost.
    Again, sorry for your loss.
    Later,
    Don

Whatever it takes to get it fixed...do it! They just do not make them like that any more. There isn't a single amp that you will buy today (short of spending stupidly large amounts of money) that is going to last as long or look as good. I had an older Yamaha that I ended up giving away and I miss that thing badly...

Yeah screw throwing that way man! Get it repairs! There's nothing like vintage receivers...and they were designed so simple and the parts are so plentiful, it shouldn't cost you much at all to have it repaired. It looks to be in excellent condition...you can't throw that out.

My first apartment, while in my last year of college, consisted of a couple of beanbag chairs, a card table and 2 folding chairs, my girlfriend's old bedroom set(furniture so so but my steamin' hot girlfriend came with the set!), an ancient B&W 13" TV with a broken off aerial and the best stereo equipment I could afford. I had a Philips 212 turntable with a Stanton 581EEE cartridge, Marantz 2235 receiver and Marantz 5G speakers. Cheaped out on the speakers but eventually moved up to Dynacos.

I'll at least check into getting it fixed.

A lot of those Marantz receivers have maintained or increased in value throughout the years. Chances are good you will be able to repair it and get another 30+ years out of it.

Darn, Sequimite! That is one pretty piece of electronics...

I lusted after this very Marantz receiver back in the late 70s. Never dropped the coin to get one and always regretted it. I agree with the crew - there are quite a few resources out there to help repair such a nice receiver.
