    Now I love my Chaparral

When I got the Chaparral I was not at all excited. It sat around for a while then on whim a while back I put it on my keychain. Now I completely love it. If I needed to defend myself I feel much more confident in it then the D-fly and definitely more so then the bug types. It is not too large in this role, I strongly recommend you try it.

I'd like to know that too. I like it.

Oh, and let us know how the CF holds up on a key ring. I'd expect scratching in short order, but curious.

Yes, I wouldn't want to get that great knife all scratched up from the keys either!
My favorite Spyderco knives include: Caly 3.5, Chaparral, Delica 4 FFG, Stretch, Para-Military 2, Endura 4 FFG, Manix 2 & Manix 2 XL!

Ken, I'm guessing it will hold up pretty well. My micarta Jester has been on my key ring over eight years now, and still looks darn good and a couple years ago someone showed me the CF Ladybug they'd been carrying with their keys for about that long and it too looked quite good.

Are we gear nerds, or what? I really like the connector, too.

Thanks Paul. Good input. I keep thinking that shiney CF is vulnerable. Maybe not so much as I think. Kinda thinking of doing that with my Balance (if I can find a good connector)

The keyring kit came from *EDITED*. The keychain kit comes with a bunch of tiny split rings. I had a knife of another brand on it for a long time, swapped to this one some time around the first of this year. I don't use this vehicle every day and tend to put my keys on my desk or etc rather then in my pocket whether at home or work. So the knife looks like I swapped it last week. there are just a couple drop marks is all. I had assumed the the CF was tougher then G10 and so forth so had not thought anything of chipping the edge in this use, and so far that is right.

Clearly some guys think it is too big, but let me explain a few things maybe you'll want to try something bigger then you otherwise thought would work. Chaparral is a smaller knife then Native or Delica although larger then Dragonfly. For comparison I am 6' tall and 160lbs. That makes for limited comfortable pocket space. For example I don't like the Manix2 very well because it takes too much space (not the knife length, the other dimension) I don't have the door unlock fob thing on my keys, to me that is too much space for not enough benefit. Yet the Chaparral is well worth it and I don't think anything of it. Although again I commonly empty my pockets, wallet, keys, coins all come out. I I don't clip the knife to my pocket, it's loose in the bottom.

That would be painful and impressive at the same time.

I use those fishing swivels for my lanyards and keyrings. The best ones are these heavy duty cylindrical ones like CCKW used. They aren't cheap (a couple of bucks each), but they really add a lot of flexibility to your EDC rig.

The swivels I use are made by a company called SPRO. You can find them at salt water fishing shops. They also make the best split rings on the market. Here's the web site: www.spro.com
